Mast cell tumour grade 3

Might be a bit niche, but am looking for some honest experiences if anyone can relate.

Our beautiful doggy, got a lump near her tail which she was bothered by, we had it removed last week and the results have just come back as a mast cell tumour grade 3. We have a catch up appointment with the vet on Tuesday although they did not seem very positive on the phone.

Through lots of googling I have found information online and prognosis info varies from months to a year or so with this grade. I was just wanting to hear other people's experiences.

Our girl is well in herself at the moment, eating, playing, enjoying walks. We are completely devastated by the news, but understand that there is a possibility it has already spread internally, we wouldn't do anything for this and know that it wouldn't be curative if we did.

Thanks in advance.

We are in a similar boat as well. Started a post yesterday and got helpful responses. Waiting to speak to the vet on Monday to see if they got everything out and trying not to worry in the meantime. I want to find a bit more out about the chemo but it's all sounds a bit too much to put him through.

My dog had a grade 2 mast cell tumour removed with wide margins - it was on his chest. He was 6 at the time and he lived to be 14.

i suspect the location may be causing the vet some concern, as the wider margin may be hard to achieve. Wishing you the best.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Just wanted to say to keep an open mind on options until you have heard all the details specific to your dog from the vet.
Re chemo, as you probably know the dose goven to dogs is smaller and less aggressive than for humans hence it's not curative but also considerably less brutal. My DF went down the chemo route with his dog, they had it as tablets to give at home, which were well tolerated, gave them another 18 months plus of good quality life. You can always discontinue a treatment if it's causing side effects that impact quality of life.
