That's it really. Now DC 's won't be having uni hols anymore and our DDog is a tricky boy ( abusive past) he is coming on weekends away.

Any recommendations of good self catering dog friendly accommodation?

We can recommend cosy cottage in Freshwater, great walking, dog friendly and iow generally good with dogs.

Water's edge in Tenby- superb but only been out of season

Pretty much anywhere in North Norfolk. Most rentals and restaurants/cafes are supremely dog friendly. If you stay in or near Wells Next The Sea, the beach walks are lovely and dogs are allowed all year round.
Have a look at Barefoot Retreats. Pricy but some lovely dog friendly rentals.

Anywhere in North Norfolk is dog friendly. Dogs everywhere. It was a reason why we got our dog. Loads of cottages etc accept dogs too. They’re welcome in pubs, some restaurants (you’ll need to check), shops and cafes.

Watergate Bay in Cornwall - many of the Waves self catering apartments are dog friendly and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.

I can recommend a lovely dog-friendly hotel? Burleigh Court in Gloucestershire. Your dog is even welcome in (part of) the restaurant and they’ll do them a doggy breakfast. Lovely walks in the area too.

Hoppinggreen · 23/02/2025 11:42

We go to Hornsea but largely because its not too far and DDog isn't happy in the car.
We know where all the good dog friendly spots are and there is a lot of beach that is dog friendly all year round as well.
Long way away from the other places mentioned here though

My ddog liked the palace hotel in Buxton (particularly the revolving door go figure) also if deeper pockets, the Buxton crescent hotel. Lots of dog friendly places to eat and drink, amazing walks

North Norfolk! Agree with PP on Barefoot Retreats. I've been using them since 2015 or so (2-3 times a year) and never been let down. I arrived once and the side gate didn't latch properly and they had someone over in an hour to fix it! Honestly, they are excellent.

Socius (nearby restaurant) is incredible and dog friendly at lunch. The Hoast (pub) is also dog friendly and very good. Within 40 minutes to Hunstanton and Holt (both lovely in different ways)

About 75% of their cottages are dog friendly and have secure gardens. Super close to Holkham Beach (dogs off lead all winter - on leads in particular parts during bird breeding season) but also Holkham Park (dogs on lead - perfect for more reactive or nervous dogs). You've also got Sandringham, Blickling and Felbrigg all within a reasonable drive.

With holiday cottages, you get what you pay for. BR are more expensive, but they are unmatched in terms of hot nice the properties are (including blackout blinds!!!) and for their customer service.

Have you tried the Duck at Stanhoe? Dog friendly and currently one of our favourites, fantastic food. Also, the Crown at East Rudham and The Rose and Crown at Snettisham. So many good restaurants to choose from down there!

LandSharksAnonymous · 23/02/2025 12:03

@Whenim63 The Duck was great as was the Rose & Crown! Not tried 'The Crown' yet but I'm going up a few weeks, so will add it to my list...

On a slightly different tact, The Owl Tearoom in Holt is amazing. Their mocha is made with melted chocolate not just chocolate powder😍They also do a brownie based cornflake crispie and I do not exaggerate when I say it is the best brownie/cake/biscuit I have ever had - and I've had a lot.

VinoEsmeralda · 23/02/2025 12:06

Watergate Bay has a spaniel day😍 @NeonRiver ours is supposed to be a sprocker but not sure, heinze spaniel with something longbodied thrown in.

Barefoot looks like a great place and close to DS! Will look for Easter holidays

Hotels don't always work as he is quite reactive to outside noises unless he sleeps in the middle of the bed!

The dog friendly rooms ant the Burleigh Court are in a separate annex, you’re disturbed by or disturbing anyone - helpful for us as our spaniel feels he has to warm us of anybody daring to pass by!

(I don’t work for them btw, just had a really lovely stay there!)

VinoEsmeralda · 23/02/2025 12:37

@MadameSzyszkoBohusz sounds like ours! It's looks lovely, tempted to go for the foraging morning and leave DH and DDog home!
