What is on my son’s dog’s mouth?

Son sent me this clip of a small bump on his dog’s
mouth. He’s worried it’s a tick but dog is being funny about him looking.

can anyone identify? This is son’s first dog so he’s a bit worried. Any help would be amazing.

He asked me if it’s a normal bump or if he should go to the vet.

Could it be a tick? That has been there since last Summer?

I am away from home which is not ideal. Son is autistic and this dog has become his absolute best friend. His grandmother’s dog had to be out to sleep for cancer. Son has got himself in a bit of a state.

Ticks only stay on until they are full. 2 or 3 days. Then they fall off. If it is a tick you are supposed to take them off incase they have Lymes disease. So I think it's not a tick. Maybe just ask about it next time you are at the vet? Sorry not to know what it is.

his sister’s just been over and said there’s nothing there now! I think it was a bit of food 😂.

It looks like a tick. My dogs pick them up now and then. I have found them on the dog's lips many times. They bury their heads under the dogs skin so you have to be very careful removing them. You can buy a little tool that twists them out safely, or take your pooch to the vet. It may be worth checking the dog over incase there are any more hiding. I have also found them hiding in armpits and between toes!

Well if that is the case, that's the happiest outcome ever ! 😂

But food...''That has been there since last summer?!''

That couldn't have been food, or a tick!..but either way, it has {hopefully} gone now. Fingers crossed 🤞.

No idea what it was but it’s gone now. I’ve had a look myself. Whatever it was it shall remain a mystery

We’ve tripe checked with the magnifying glass son primed. Just out of curiosity can dogs still get ticks in the dead of winter?

They used to be quite seasonal but we are definitely finding them more often now. I've got into the habit of checking the dogs over after every walk now. Its much easier to remove them before they attach! Ticks look a bit like spiders before they have filled up with blood. Theres plenty of info online about how to remove them and dispose of them. They tend to crawl around the dog for a while before they find a good spot to attach. I hope you don't find any more op, I hate ticks 🤮.

Son’s dog has had many ticks in the past. He usually gets them on his face which is an absolute nightmare to get off. All the more so as he is long haired. Thankfully he doesn’t mind being checked over. Whatever it was it fell off by itself within minutes of me starting this thread. Didn’t realise ticks were possible in Winter, very good to know. Thanks all.
