Taking dog to France

Plant2628 · 16/02/2025 08:26

We are in Normandy with small dog for 5 days in July. We have to take him with us as we are in Europe for an extended period. D-day beaches, Ruen, Paris with a dog - anyone know what they can/can't do and any tips? Dog carrier I've read? Dog friendly? We can leave him settled at the accommodation for some of the time if needed. I think we will do that for the day in Paris. It looks like he should be able to come for most of the other stuff. Interested in tips /advice rather than don't do it as we have to ....
Thanks so much

Sorry I can't be of any practical help, but placemaking to see whether you get any good advice, as I also, intend taking my dogs in my campervan to France at some point. I hate holidaying without them.

Depending on accommodation, you may find a lot prohibit leaving dogs alone so worth checking that.

France in general is so dog friendly. Assume you have passport or whatever it's called in place? Rabies and followuo takes a while

Yes vaccine etc all in hand

I think d-day beaches dog friendly to carry

Some of the D Day beaches have summer restrictions on dogs. Some allow early morning and some not at all between June and September. The French though often disregard this but you may easily get challenged.

France is generally very dog friendly. Dogs can be outside at Restaurants.
It can get pretty hot sometimes so you may need to restrict daytime activities if you have the dog with you.

Due to Brexit you can not take meat based dog food into France. So you will need to find a source in France of similar food.

Dogs are allowed on public transport in France but need muzzles on trains unless they are in a dog carrier. Although you used to be able to pay to take dogs on trains and if they had a ticket they did not need a carrier or a muzzle not sure if this is still the case.

If you go by Eurostar dead easy to travel with dogs.
