Blood in poop - warning, photo

Ddog was behaving strangely yesterday, eating but not wanting to go outside (very unusual). During the night she has pooped a significant amount in her crate which never happens and then she has had an accident inside and I’ve noticed blood. Would you say this needs a vet appointment or would you watch and wait?

If you're worried enough to post on mumsnet, you should be at the vets.

If you speak to a receptionist they'll be able to advise whether this needs urgent treatment or not 😊Hope she's okay!

well if she hadn't had this accident in the house I wouldn't have seen it and so wouldn't be taking her to the vets, just making sure she drinks a lot and only eats plain food. She seems reasonably perky. The vest have said they can see her if I feel its necessary.

I would keep an eye on her at home and see how she gets on. Mine has had several incidents of bloody poo over the years and it's generally always been a one off that's resolved in 24 hours.

As @biscuitsandbooks said, I'd keep an eye on poos for 24 hours. We've had incidents of this with both ours and it's always resolved in 24 hours and they've been otherwise well in themselves.

A vets visit is probably best , although my dog once managed to snaffle a bone whilst out which must have scratched him internally as his first poo with part bone in it looked like that .
