Dog overexcited by one person

Need some help with my 18m old cocker spaniel.

Generally a lovely dog - good recall off lead, perfectly happy being left alone, amazing with our baby and calm in the house.

That is until my dog sees my mum - she honestly becomes a different dog, barking for attention and treats, constantly in her face and generally an overexcited mess!

It is really tough as my mum comes over a few times a week to see the baby and walks the dog once a week - her behaviour is appalling on walks, barking at anything and everything and it’s impossible for my mum to play with the baby without the dog being all over her.

how can we train this out of the dog? My mum does give the dog a lot of treats and dog really associates her with fun :(

Oh I have a cocker spaniel who looses his mind when one of my Dc visit I've tried everything I just put a lead on him and try and ignore him till he calms down. He will still be fizzing but least he's controllable. Mine is. 2 years old.

I'd get her not to treat her till she's calm I know it's not easy to ignore but if your mum tries to calm down a bit your dog might calm down (maybe)😀

Well you’ve answered your own question. Your dog gets spoilt and training goes out of the window. You dog needs to get exactly zero attention from her when it’s misbehaving. That means her not acknowledging it or even looking at it when she comes to your house and it starts going mental. She only (very calmly) strokes or interacts with it when it’s 100% calm. I’d pack it in completely with the constant treats, they’re not needed and clearly doing your dog no favours. It’ll take a long time at first but walks only happen when the dogs completely calm. If the dog goes nuts when she picks the lead up, then it doesn’t get put on until it’s 100% calmed down. Again when the doors opened. Again when she goes to leave the house. The dog gets absolutely nothing unless it’s calm and listening, otherwise it gets ignored

Your mum needs to ignore the dog until she's calm, and stop giving her treats.
