Best sofa to let dogs on

Flipslop · 30/01/2025 20:58

I let my two ginger (seemingly constantly shedding!!) dogs on the sofa. I had a habitat grey velvet sofa before and it got really grubby so replaced it with an ikea woven fabric one which turns out was a bad idea.
can anyone recommend a type of sofa that you can actually get dog hair off successfully??
ps I know the obvious answer is to not them on but I don’t want to do that

Use nice throws and change and wash them regularly.

Leather with a blanket on top

Leather. Add washable blankets for cosiness. I wouldn't have anything else with pets.

Leather. Always

Leather - but I hate sitting on it

Throws work but it’s extra washing

So mine match my pets 😂

Thanks so much everyone. Our sofa is constantly covered with a throw but still manages to get in a gross condition. Was thinking leather, sounds like a plan! X

Also- I'm a cheapskate and buy second hand leather. Never paid more than £50 for a sofa yet, makes any dog scratches etc much less concerning! I wouldn't fancy second hand fabric as imagine the previous owners sitting on it naked....... but leather can be cleaned so its OK 🤣
Fb marketplace can be useful if you are willing to keep an eye and wait.

The scratches are what has always made me wary of leather. I’m after a corner sofa in a very specific size so would be rare on market place but I’ll defo keep an eye out! X

We have leather with two small thick cotton rugs on the seat area, tucked in around the sofa seat cushions (the sofa itself has two seat cushions along its length). They are neater than throws and don't ruck up very much, and v easy to wash. Think our current ones were Ikea, but Aldi often do them in the 'aisle of mad things'.

I opted for leather sofas but had covers professionally made for the seat cushions: leather can be cold and slippery to sit on in the winter and sticky in the summer, and the dogs/cats really didn’t like it. The covers are made from a synthetic linen look-alike fabric which is sturdy (no worries about scratching), doesn’t “hold on” to fur and washes and dries really quickly.
