Cats can be more problematic to control worms and fleas than dogs, agree with you there. That said the frequency of dosage that these prescription style set ups would have you believe is necessary is very questionable.

Can anyone recommend a decent wormer that their cats will have (and method of getting it in them)? I don't like using the combined spot on ones either as my cats seem to have owl like attributes and lick it off 😳

Edit - just realised this article was posted in the dog section 😬

Oh absolutely, we only treat every three months and use liquid in their foods rather than spot ons.

Panacur 😊 it's liquid so it can just be added to their food or syringed straight in.

Those of you who do worm counts on your dog's stools, how often do you do the worm counts please? And is this method also suitable for lungworm? A vet near me has tweeted that they are seeing more cases of dogs with lungworm than usual at the moment, so I don't want my dog to be infested (and sustain damage) by lungworm that is left untreated.

I cannot get my head around the habit of putting flea treatments on our pets every few weeks when there is nothing to treat! Pharma companies and veterinary subscriptions certainly drive the idea that this is something you must do as a pet owner. They are making a fortune.

I'm with you there. I don't know why anyone would want to put that many chemicals on or in their dog, let alone why they'd pay for it every month. Sadly, the vets have people convinced that its necessary, and the environment is suffering along with the owners' bank balances.

We do worm counts every 3/4 months, we order a pack that includes both worm and lungworm tests. Cost wise it doesn't save us any money over treatments.
