Small lump on dog

Hi all,

My 8 year old staffie x has developed a very small (like pea sized) lump on his ribs. If you pinch the skin it feels like its part of his skin, rather than attached to his body.

Doesn't move though. Nothing visible to see, like a spot or whatever, looks totally normal otherwise. Doesn't seem to bother him.

I will phone the vet tomorrow but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and if a tiny lump like this could still be serious? Presumably a small lump is better than a big one..? Feels like if could be easily removed if necessary.

My x staff developed a few small lumps as he got older ( 10+) they were fatty deposits and completely harmless.
Most were small and unobtrusive one grew to about the size of a small Hazelnut on his hip so I had that one removed because he caught it on things occasionally.
Hopefully this will be the same for your pooch.

Thanks @ScottBakula, that's reassuring. They're such a worry aren't they! He's the loveliest dog, so I hope he's got many healthy years ahead 🤞

You are right , they can scare us half to death sometimes.
My dog lived a very healthy happy life until he was very suddenly taken by cancer, absolutely not related to the fatty lumps he was just over 18 yrs oldand still thought he was a puppy most days.

It needs checking by the vet obviously, but one of my dogs has got loads of lipomas and though they can get really big, they aren't an issue. My other dog had to have a biopsy as his lipoma is under the muscle and looks weird

Oh I'm sorry you lost him, @ScottBakula , but what great age!

Hopefully it will be a lipoma or a cyst or something. I'm probably making a big fuss about nothing but I'd definitely like the vet to check it, even just to stop me obsessing 😆

He left a big dog shape hole in my life but he had a good long and waggy tail life .
I hope all goes well at the vets with your dog.
