A good food for dogs in rescue kennels?

Hi all,
I recently became a trustee at a local dog rescue charity. We collect dogs from the stray kennels or they are surrendered to us by members of the public. They usually stay between a few days to 3 months, occasionally one stays longer.

I have been tasked with finding a new brand of dog food, as they are currently fed a brand that’s poor quality and suspected to have caused runny poos.
I’m finding it a bit of a minefield, the vet says royal canin but I do feel that’s possibly because they are a stockist.

I’m looking at wet food as my starting point but all reccomendations welcome. Budget is £1.50 or lower per 400/390g tin or tray.

vets recommend Chappie for upset stomachs because it is mostly all carbohydrate. Short term it works well on upset stomachs for that reason but as a long term feed it has the nutritional value of a cardboard box.
It might work well for you for rescue dogs but please be aware that new owners often stay with the food their dog was being fed when they adopted them because they want to do what’s best.
Chappie rates at 20% on allaboutdogfood very very low.
Something mid range would be better nutritionally and no more expensive.

Chappie is absolutely fine. Evidently so by many of the comments on here.

you can fed or not fed whatever you choose but the question was a good food.
this is the analysis of Chappie adult complete dry.
no judgement from me I’ve seen working dogs fed on flaked maize and milk who lived long and healthy lives.

@Beautyfadesdumbisforever this is the analysis (rated at 38%) for the Chappie I feed my Patterdale, who seems to me to be perfectly healthy. I’ve always had animals, from cattle and sheep to dogs and cats so reckon I have some vague idea as to what a healthy animal looks like. He’s been on it for seven years, what exactly ill effect is it having - other than nice well formed poos rather than the bloody mucussy ones he gets with other “better quality” food?
