@brushingboots well done on the train!

I took M on the bus when he was little, I should really do that again, as well as the train but I don’t know where I would go!

CaptainBeanThief · 10/03/2025 15:20

@YorkshireFelix
Can you put him in the hallway or another room,
When Milo is like this, ( not really often, anymore sorry 😬) I can't stand him near me, let alone in the same room as me.
I put him in the hallway and ignore him until he falls asleep and gets over himself.
I cannot believe he's done that to your iMac surprised you didn't phone your nearest rescue or tie him to a tree 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Milo is at the vets tomorrow and I'm nervous - I don't know why - need to get him some flea treatment - I spotted fleas yesterday 😬😬.

Looking at the 6 month picture I posted of Milo was making me broody but @YorkshireFelix vinnies antic soon put me straight 🤣

brushingboots · 10/03/2025 15:21

@YorkshireFelix Do it! I was ridiculously, pathetically anxious about it this morning and it was genuinely absolutely fine. It isn’t nice to see them stress-pant but ultimately it was just an hour and she was OK. I put the settle mat down in the cab and she instantly laid down on it which I was dead impressed by.

Jesus, your poor laptop, and your nerves. He definitely sounds over-tired. I know the humping isn't sexual but it always looks so grim, doesn't it. Talking of sleep – have you had any luck in that regard?

@Nella68 Get the train to come and see me and @Bupster in ye olde shire!

YorkshireFelix · 10/03/2025 15:32

@CaptainBeanThief We don't actually have a hallway 😂 It's literally kitchen and living room but I can shut him in the living room and sit in peace in the kitchen so that's a good idea. Not sure if the living room is boring enough for him to lie down and shut up though. Aww I am sure the vets will be fine tomorrow. I understand how you feel though. And fleas!!!! Have you had to deal with them before? I wouldn't know what to do and would prob just want to burn my house down.

@brushingboots yes he's going through an over-tired humpy phase at the minute and it's most annoying. It hurts when he's grabbing onto my leg too! I can get him to stop most of the time but I have had to stick him in his crate a couple of times when he just will not give up. Sleep not good still. We've not really tried anything else because we are so tired of it and I just can't be arsed any more. I know that sounds bad. I've tried knocking on the neighbours door a couple of times to speak to them but I think I keep missing them. DH reckons he's just going to sleep downstairs with him until he can go to MIL's in April but that sounds like pure insanity to me!!

CaptainBeanThief · 10/03/2025 15:45

Lock him up and go somewhere else in the house to get away from him. Put your foot down, he literally knows how to wind you up, Milo knows how to wind me up,
He picks things up like letters or paper based things up, I will say no once and if he doesn't listen I put him in the hallway and close the door to calm down, it's not a punishment as such but the more I say no the more he tries to wind me up and do it more and gets overexcited so I just nip it in the bud before he gets to that stage.
He sounds like a right knob today, these days are the worst and I remember these days where I just wanted to get in bed and fall asleep so I didn't have to deal with it.

That is good advice thank you. He goes mad for letters and paper too! He's actually laid down on the sofa and settled now thank god but I darent move in case he gets up again...

ComeTalkToMe · 10/03/2025 23:48

Oh @YorkshireFelix - that is rubbish about your MacBook, hope it dries out well, sometimes they’re just a right pain in the arse aren’t they!

Yes @brushingboots got homework, had 2 1/2lb training dummy arrive this am, so we will be out with them tomorrow!

YorkshireFelix · 11/03/2025 15:22

How did the vets go @CaptainBeanThief?

CaptainBeanThief · 11/03/2025 15:28

@YorkshireFelix
Awful. Fucking awful.
Firstly we saw a different vet. She was arrogant from the start.
She said, aw he isn't even limping then didn't even know which leg was bad ( it's both but primarily the right she thought it was left)
She said our ONLY option is surgery and that's all she was prepared to speak about, she said he needs x-rays ( but then wouldn't do one) then said she's going to speak to the surgeon then speak email us ( all this happened in under 5 mins) she didn't let us get a word in edge ways.
We couldn't even ask for a flea treatment, she refused to give him anymore medication and she even got his age wrong.
She even said the previous vet said the EXACT same thing ( she didn't).
We are going to get a second opinion at the PDSA vets, we wanted to ask about physiotherapy and hydrotherapy but was rushed out the door being railroaded into surgery.
We are not closed to the idea of surgery completely but we didn't like the way we were spoken to and completely forced into a decision we didn't feel was best for our dog.
£40 pound for less than 5 minutes 😐

Whaaat that is awful! I am sorry. I would probably complain to be honest. I was going to say you should get a second opinion so glad you are doing that. It seems bizarre to try and push you into having surgery when there's obviously other less drastic options you can look at!!

CaptainBeanThief · 11/03/2025 15:56

We are eligible for free PDSA treatment as I'm on disability benefits and UC top up ( my husband still works) and we are in the catchment area.

With it being 4,000 per knee we can't afford it realistically if it ends up needing doing urgently with no other options. Obviously we would give a hefty "donation" but not 8 grands worth.

What I don't understand is the other vet said she wanted to trial him on the medication due to his breed and not thinking he could manage the 8 weeks crate rest and if he didn't heal properly it would make the problem worse, then this vet just tries to force us to make a decision within in 3 minutes which we didn't want to do or commit to.
We also want this second opinion to make sure the grading is correct as it has been diagnosed with x-rays etc.

I'm just upset she sent him away, it's like they don't care about the animals welfare, just how much money they can get and it upset me.

I understand, I would feel the same way. You expect to fully trust a vet and for them to have your pets best interest at heart, so I'm not surprised you are upset. 4k a knee is so much! I didn't realise it would be so expensive. Have you booked the PDSA appointment?

Nella68 · 11/03/2025 18:37

@CaptainBeanThief sorry to hear of your bad experience. I hope you manage to get an appointment soon x

Nella68 · 11/03/2025 18:49

@peachgreen how is Betty today? I hope she was ok overnight

Thank you for asking <3 She was okay overnight and much more herself today but has gone downhill tonight a bit again – clearly in pain, poor wee poppet. Hoping tomorrow brings more improvement, I’m feeling very sorry for her!

YorkshireFelix · 11/03/2025 21:34

Aww bless her @peachgreen. I hope she recovers quickly.

YorkshireFelix · 13/03/2025 19:32

I finally managed to catch my neighbour just now as I randomly bumped into her when walking Vinny, and she said they barely hear him when he barks!! They are slightly elevated compared to us, so our living room is essentially next to their cellar, which I think helps a lot. I am so relieved as I have been stressing about the noise he makes generally, but it's given me an in to speak to her soon about him potentially being noisy at night whilst we try and get him back to sleeping on his own. I wanted to test the waters asking about general noise first 😄

Neighbour on the other side should be ok I think. They bought the house a while ago and moved a load of stuff in, and she's there maybe every other day for a few hours but doesn't actually 'live' there at the minute.

He had a check up at the vets today and the nurse suggested trying an Adaptil type plug in thing, and she gave me some Pet Remedy calming spray to try out. But she said there's another nurse there who is a qualified behaviourist and she will speak to her and see if she has any advice and drop me an email. I've ordered the Pet Remedy version of the plug in as it had better reviews so hopefully we can finally crack the sleep issue...

YorkshireFelix · 13/03/2025 19:32

@peachgreen How is she doing? Hopefully a bit brighter now it's been a few days?

Nella68 · 13/03/2025 20:18

@YorkshireFelix that’s a relief about your neighbours. Worrying about them being disturbed is an extra stress you don’t need!

We had an adaptil plug in when M was small. We had it plugged in right next to his crate and I like to think it helped

YorkshireFelix · 13/03/2025 21:29

@Nella68 they have quite mixed reviews but thought it was definitely worth a try.

YorkshireFelix · 14/03/2025 11:59

V had his fourth physio appointment this morning and she said we can extend his walks a bit more now as she’s really pleased with this progress! We can have him off lead in a flat open field, but no woodland walks yet. I don’t know why, but I’m really nervous about letting him off lead again (even with the longline on). I have visions of him getting overexcited and totally fucking off into the sunset since he’s been stuck on his lead for weeks… We only have a 5m longline so maybe it’s worth getting a 10m?

brushingboots · 14/03/2025 12:34

@YorkshireFelix that is excellent news! As is that you saw your neighbour and can now try and tackle the sleep issue a bit better. I think I would be in an asylum by now in your position. We slept with pupsy on the bed for the first time ever in London earlier in the week because it was the first time she’d stayed there. Quite nice but also quite weird: lovely to have something furry next to you whe you wake up but I do like my personal space. Now we’re back home she’s back in her bed/on the sofa and everyone is perfectly happy with that.

I think it’s fairly likely that he will get overexcited but who can blame him. I can’t see any reason why not to get a longer longline if it would soothe your nerves. But don’t be nervous! You have put a lot of work into him and he will remember – plus he’ll sense your worry so best to be super bright and keen and positive with him and then he won’t detect that anything is afoot. I know what you mean though, but you can do it!

Thank you, you always know what to say! I am convinced he will have forgotten what a whistle is 😂

I am the same re personal space. Sometimes I think if he could, he would crawl under my skin and happily live there. I think DH secretly likes sleeping with him!!

I’m glad your London trip went well. She is such an angel. I was telling DH about pupsy the other day and I told him if I can get Vinny to be half as well trained as her, I would be absolutely thrilled.

brushingboots · 14/03/2025 14:36

@YorkshireFelix Ahhh you flatter both of us! She's not perfect by any means but we do our best <3 She was so good in London, but I think she was glad to get back to finding birds and swimming in bogs again.
