Antibiotics and steroids- bitch lab doesn’t stop wee ing

My 5 year old lab has been prescribed antibiotics and steroids for an injury.

but all she’s doing is wanting to be let out for constant wee wee’s, she’s had me up all night two nights on the trot.

this evening she’s been out almost every hour, minimum two long wee’s each time.

is this normal? Im going to ring the vets tomorrow but wondering if it’s part of the treatment side effects.

Yes, that's the steroids unfortunately. How long is she on them for?

Ylvamoon · 17/01/2025 06:44

I agree it's the steroids.

Slightly questioning your vet, but why did they describe them for an injury?
Is it pain management or to stop some irritation?
I might look at alternatives if possible.

Steroids do make them drink and subsequently pee more.

She’s just wet the door mat and got herself in a state, I’ve chucked it out the door and given her a cuddle. I’ll ring the vets tomorrow

shes basically scratched herself and it got infected but it’s huge

Poor girl. Hope the vet can make some changes for you

How's your girl now @Tworedgeraniums ?

The infected area is shrinking but the wee wee’s are still frequent. I’ve let her have a much water as she wants during the day but after 6pm I’ve limited it a bit and then removed it overnight. Im still up twice a night.

we went on one of our longer walks today and she was very happy

Yes, steroids do that but ddog is on them every other day now and it’s balanced out (on them for 6 months with chemo). He had one accident in the night which is so unusual for him. Thankfully it was only week 1 it affected him. Pain relief was the first - projectile diarrhoea under the tumble dryer. Never seen anything like it.

Edited

We have just reduced the steroids so hoping it will get better, but still got 8 days to go, I managed a nice nap this afternoon so hopefully that will help.

I’ve spread puppy pads all around the back door and into the kitchen, im hoping we don’t get a poonami on the stairs as it’s the only carpet in the house.

Glad she's on the mend. My dogs on steroids for life, things do ease as you reduce the dose. And (not to jinx things!) thankfully we've never had a poonami
