Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

Hahaha.

This is another bit of proof of what a great job you're doing with him.

HangingOver · 27/02/2025 17:06

He was SO affectionate with the kennel lasses too which I take as a huge plus, lovely if he can bond with them and be happy there. And adored playing with all the dogs in the field apparently. So I think I'll just keep sending his for the odd day here and there, so he knows I'm definitely coming back for him, and build up to an overnight (then I can visit my family who I haven't seen since I got him!) and then maybe think about a holiday later in the year. Tbh he didn't seem to want to leave. He's got in, wolfed a meal and gone straight to sleep.

Sounds as if he already knows you're coming back for him. 👏 👏

2025willbemytime · 27/02/2025 18:09

I'm not at all tearful at this report. What a super star.

Twiglets1 · 27/02/2025 18:42

That’s so good @HangingOver
What a relief that you can leave him there again knowing he’ll be happy.

MaxandMoritz · 27/02/2025 19:23

That's fantastic, Hanging, such a relief for you.

You can have a few days out, clean the house in peace, have a long lie now and again and eventually a holiday.

It's hard being on holiday without them but when you know he's happy there it'll make such a difference. You might even enjoy it!

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/02/2025 04:25

This is brilliant! :D I am so pleased for you all!

sallydoodlecat · 28/02/2025 19:36

That is brilliant news! My dog goes to daycare 3 days a week and he loves it. Well done you and Pod!

HangingOver · 03/03/2025 15:06

Pod was crying this morning.

He was lying on his side in a square of sunshine on the sofa pulling toys out of his toybox in a leisurely fashion, chomping them and then dropping them off the side. He chomped and dropped all he could reach, then looked direct me and set about a pathetic wailing because he's too lazy to get up and pick them up.

I've moved the little princeling's throne into the garden and he's enjoying it very much.

Oh my dog is a Prince too @HangingOver

He lies across our footstool ( It’s his now) with his bone and when the bone falls over the side he whines piteously until we retrieve it for him & place it back on the footstool in front of him.

OldSpeclkledHen · 03/03/2025 15:54

Oh God... I've just realised I do this for my knob head dog 😳😳😳

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/03/2025 15:56

There aren't the hours in a day to document all the time the Stick Dog cries for something...

Today she cried to go out, cried that it was cold out, cried to come in, cried because I said no to the option of lying in the open doorway, looking at 'out' from the comfort of a soft mat, three feet from a radiator.

She has also cried because she wanted to get in my lap and I said she COULD get in my lap but Low Wheelbased Hound was looking at her.

Last night she cried because she didn't want to sit on my lap, but she also didn't want the LWH to sit there either.

Oh and last night she pissed on the dog bed upstairs because she couldn't be arsed to go out for a wee when given the opportunity (it was dark and cold).

It is an extremely good job that she is devastatingly pretty.

MaxandMoritz · 03/03/2025 16:46

Mine stands looking at her bed or her cushion giving little whimpering cries until I shake the blanket and lay it down nice and smooth. Even when the blanket is already smooth. Only then does she condescend to lie down.

Her bed and her cushion are covered in a soft shaggy fleece but that's not good enough, she has to have her blankets.

i thought it was only cats who have servants?!

PhoenixFlight · 03/03/2025 20:55

Ours lies down in her fluffy doughnut bed and then whimpers till it’s dragged near the sofa where she can be in communion with her human servants.

If the cat jumps up on the sofa, she whimpers because she wants to be there. Then eventually she jumps up and the cat immediately takes the fluffy bed. Works every time.

Cue more sad whimpering - until the humans remove the cat and she can return to the doughnut.

Cat returns to the sofa… Sequence repeats…

Ellmau · 03/03/2025 20:59

You're all well trained :)

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/03/2025 21:10

Well trained or... ground into submission? It's a close call.

Is he being a Good Boy today?

LadyGrillingSole · 04/03/2025 23:17

Hey Hanging, hope you and your handsome boy had a good day in the sunshine today 😎

FeralWoman · 05/03/2025 08:05

Hello gorgeous Pod! Have his ears grown or are they just on full alert mode?

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/03/2025 15:31

Yeah.. are those ears bigger?!...

HangingOver · 05/03/2025 21:22

Doggy school was chaos tonight. All the dogs were meeting eachother for the first time and they're all adolescent so there was a lot of shouting. As Pod and Nervous Boi passed eachother on the way in NB started really yelling at Pod and Pod started yelling back crossly and I STUPIDLY put my hand Pods face (I'm actually not even sure why? Perhaps I was going for his collar) and he gave me a tiny bite on my wrist. Theres a wee bruise. 😔

BUT he did brilliantly at all the exercises, really focused and good. So I'd give it a solid 7 as the nip was my fault.

OP posts:
WiddlinDiddlin · 05/03/2025 21:57

There we go - theres some focusing on the positive and that is REALLY positive, being able to focus and do the work in class when its such a highly charged environment is bloody brilliant!

And yep, a bruised nippy bite isn't great but when you consider he could bite through your wrist with relative ease, it was a very inhibited nip indeed.

I'd give that an 8.5... I think you must have done a great job of engaging him and supporting him there!

MaxandMoritz · 06/03/2025 09:55

We live and learn. You learn faster than most, HangingOver.

Pod is doing so well. Two steps forward to one back at worst.

HangingOver · 06/03/2025 10:42

Thanks both, I was a bit upset at the time but NB spectacularly took the attention off Pod by shouting at everyone, ripping his claw and then monching the instructor so I'm not sure whether he'll be at the next one.

I've cancelled Pod's walk with friends today in favour of a quite hour in the paddock with just me as he has another evening of doggy school tonight and I want to keep him calm and quiet. Also training has shown me a good way of dividing up our paddock sessions into longlining, training and just play so we can make the most out of them.

Pod currently sleep-running next to me - it's SO cute.
