Running lead for small dog

Can anyone recommend a solution for running with a small border terrier? Most of the running leads I've seen are really quite heavyweight bungees with a big metal clip which bashes around and she hates (we did try one). I'm struggling to find anything much different.

I run with my border and I use a double ended lead I had made to 2.5 m. That means I can hold it or I can clip it around my waist depending on the situation. I find 2.5 metres a comfortable length for us both. Most of the off the peg ones are really heavy and being 6.5 Kg she doesn’t need a bungee.

Thank you that looks like a good solution

I use a Halti active lead

I prefer to be hands free, as hand held you either end up jerking the dog, or you have to change your arm carriage which is bad for your body mechanics.

With a small dog, you don’t need full-on canicross gear. But the lead must have a bungee section (to cushion any unexpected stops) and needs to be attached to a harness not a collar

Thanks @wetotter ... got the Halti active and it's great.

Watching with interest as we picked our baby BD yesterday (he's 8 weeks) and as a runner, when I get my life back (hollow laugh 😆) I hope to take this Fur Bomb with me eventually

Running with the border terrier has not been successful so far. Unlike my partner, she's not interested in a PB time. She'll stop for ages for a sniff of a wee, or to eye out a squirrel. We're going to try again and hoping this much better lead might help. But I'm not hopeful.

Mine’s great now. I took her out initially and rewarded her for running! So a very small snack every however many metres. Then I phased it out. I still take treats and she has the occasional one just for being awesome. She runs like a demon. She does sniff occasionally so we just stop and she sniffs. We run long stretches without.

My last dog was much sniffier.

Ultimately terriers only do things that are worth their while 😉
