Dog breed suggestions?

Hiya, we lost our beloved Barney the bichon frise on 2nd December 2024 and it has absolutely torn us apart as a family. I have 2 daughters (18 and 15) and my oldest is a student children’s nurse and my youngest is football obsessed. We are out 5 days a week for football and our boy used to come with us no problem but we ideally need a dog who can blend into that routine as our oldest is busy with uni most nights on placement etc. We ideally want something a little bigger and not another bichon as our Barney is absolutely irreplaceable. My eldest is particularly struggling however as he was there since she was 4 years old. Any dog breed recommendations? I would absolutely love to rescue but don’t think we would be accepted due to my working hours as a social workers and my husbands as a manager in the council? TIA

I have a miniature poodle and she’s amazing. Poodles are very intelligent so easy to train. They don’t have their own agenda, mine lives to please. She’s very affectionate but loves a run off the lead and playing with other dogs. She hasn’t got a nasty bone in her body. She’s the perfect dog.

Wheaten Terrier? Bigger than a Bichon but not huge (mine is 15kg). Not very 'terrier-y', loves a good walk but equally loves to snooze the day away!

Lurchers. We love them! They are massively lazy and lovely personalities. They don't chew or be annoying in any way.

Their recall can be a bit pants- One of mine loves it, the other just stares at me in amusement and looks away. They only go off the lead in an enclosed field everyday, the one with recall is fine otherwise.

They are gentlemen:) the big standard poodles look smashing dogs, but might be wanting lots of exercise. This is fine, but lurchers don't mind if you can't manage it one day.
