Washing my guide dog

I am a trainer fosterer for a golden Labrador for the guide dod association. I have him at home until 2nd Jan before he resumes his training. Typically , whilst training he gets washed /groomed etc in the dog care room. We are not allowed to wash him ourselves/not allowed to take him in the bath etc. I didn't anticipate (first time doing this volunteering role) that my dog might start to smell ever this xmas period having not been groomed/washed in the way they do so when he is in training etc
In the last 2 days the smell is quite strong around him and in our lounge. Any thoughts/advice on how to clean him & to reduce the smell etc
Many thanks

You can get sprays and foams that work a bit like dry shampoos

But I don’t routinely wash dogs tbh, so I’m fairly surprised that you’re getting a smell, I’d be a wee bit concerned it might mean there’s an issue with him.

I've had Labradors for over thirty years. None have smelt other than slightly doggy, and they only get 'spot' cleaned. If a dog's coat smells it can be did to an infection of the hair follicles. Surprised Guide Dogs wash them so often.

Labs are self cleaning. Fox poo needs washing off and a hose down after a bog snorkelling session. Generally a good brush sorts them out. Do you have a local river he could have a splash around in?

Check his ears for infection, paws for poo and his bits for something wrong.

I would not wash. Agree spot clean if rolled in fox poo.

If it is just his normal odour a good brush will help.

Do check skin, ears, feet, mouth and anal glands for any issues or infection.
