Have you ever shown your dog a video of themself in TV?

Our dog loves watching dogs on TV (and other animals but especially dogs). We joked about him asking why he’s never on TV so DH took some videos of him out running and chasing his ball and cast them to the TV. Our dog is absolutely enthralled 😂🥰. He doesn’t take his eyes off the TV. I’d love to know if he knows it’s him. Here he is trying to figure out how to turn the TV on so he can watch himself!

ive tried but neither of them acknowledge the tv idk why, but they basically don’t even look at it, they will hear the dog bark but then look around anywhere but the tv to find the source of it Confused

What is really noticeable with my Whippet is that she knows the sounds {via video} of her first home.

Even the sounds of the birds in the garden.

I show her videos of her and her sisters running around {they had a meet up a couple of weeks ago} and she definitely likes watching, but who knows if they recognise themselves.....she recognises her sisters though!

@oakleaffy that’s amazing that’s she can remember all that!

I think that even if he doesn’t recognise himself he must recognise his favourite beaches.

My dog doesn't really notice the television and she's usually asleep when it's on in the evening. Only thing she reacts to on tv is thunder.

I noticed with my dog, when she was younger, that she would get very excited if, when out on a walk, we came across a dog of the same breed and colour as her and the other dog would usually react in the same way. She's also only interested in dogs of the same, or similar size to her, otherwise she pretty much ignores other dogs.

Maybe your dog is looking at himself on tv and, rather than actually recognising himself, is enthralled because he's seeing a dog that is the same breed and colour as him.

Does he ever see himself in a mirror and been excited by his own reflection?

Thinking about it, I don't think my dog has ever noticed herself in a mirror.
