DDog reacting badly to antibiotic

The vet prescribed Metrocare antibiotic tablets, which I started giving DDog last evening. So far he's only had two doses, but tonight is shaking, drooling, dozy, and drinking as though he can't get enough water (tipping the bowl even when it's full).

The vet didn't warn me about this possible reaction, but apparently it's fairly common. Does anyone have experience of this, and does anyone know a way of making a more quenching drink for him? Poor dog is suffering, I'll have to stay up all night with him in case of sudden need to poo, pee or vomit. Several trips outside already.

I'd be ringing the vet again.

Bit late now, but I’d have taken the dog straight to an OOH vet. Excessive drinking - for any reason - always requires immediate consultation with a vet, yet alone the other behaviours.

Tbh rule of thumb: if you’re worried enough to post on mumsnet, or any social media platform - or to Google symptoms etc - then you should be ringing a vet.

My ddog is on long term antibiotics and the first one prescribed didn't suit him either. If you call the vet they will change them to something else.

Also, only give them more than an hour or so after each meal. Not with the meal.

I hope your ddog is on the mend soon.

Thanks for replies, everyone. He got to sleep eventually, and is now at the vet's for the day for tests and treatment.
