Powdered algae to keep dog’s teeth clean?

Does anyone use a product like this with their dog (I’m looking at ProDen PlaqueOff), and if so, would you recommend it or not? I haven’t yet managed to accustom my rescue to having her teeth brushed, so it would be a stand-alone strategy for a long while yet.

I used it on my old dog and there was definitely some improvement.

With my new dog I’m currently using Bugalugs dental gel which you can just squirt into the mouth and leave them to move it around by licking their lips.

it really is best to brush regularly too though.

Natural chews/bones work best in my experience. A lot of these powders are a bit of a gimmick IMO.

I use it with my 2 large breed mongrels.
Started on plaque off but went into bugalugs seaweed (exactly the same single ingredient but much cheaper).

It's had a good effect on my two. I've found it softens the existing plaque, but still needs a method to remove it, so in conjunction with a natural chew it's worked well.

They've been on it for just over 12 months now and I'm a convert.
Worth noting though that it's not recommended for dogs with thyroid issues, so check with your vet first.

My dog had terrible teeth and breath - Plaque-Off did help a bit but you really need to brush as well (possibly my least favourite aspect of an otherwise gloriously easy and much missed dog)

Thanks everyone: guess I’ll give it a go.

I tried it with my spaniel but not convinced it made much difference. The active ingredient is a species of kelp which is very cheap if you buy it as that.

A friend swears by salmon skins.

Not algae, but I started giving my elderly lurcher dried beef tracheas as a chew, and his teeth have cleaned up amazingly well. So much so that the vet asked if he'd had a dental somewhere else as she was surprised that they were white and shiny at his age
