GPS recommendations

We have a Houdini who despite a fully dog proof garden that has fencing down to the centre of the earth and concrete pillars at every corner - still manages to make a new escape tunnel every few months.

It's embarrassing that our whole village Facebook page know him and frequently have to return him from his escapades. Plus I'm obviously worried about him getting flattened.

I've asked for a GPS tracker for him as my Christmas present off my mum but am overwhelmed. Ideally less than £50. He's smallish less than 10kg so not too bulky. I keep seeing PitPat advertised but seems heavily marketed. Someone else just said an iPhone tile? I have an iPhone btw

Any advice appreciated

Tractive.com all the time - we have 6 dogs and knowing where they are at all times is brilliant.

I have a Tractive for my Springer - had it about 2 years and thankfully the only times I’ve had to use it is when it’s fallen off his collar! Each time (only 3 times) it was in fairly dense woodland/undergrowth and the GPS has taken me right to it. He is in and out of hedgerows and water and mud and it’s lasted well with all that.

I think they’re about £50 and then a few pounds a month subscription.

There's no one tracker that's best for every situation.

Some depend on mobile coverage, if it's poor where you walk that's no help.
Some work on radio and need line of sight so best in open areas. Some do continuous monitoring, some you have to phone up. Battery life varies. Size of tracker varies, if you have a small dog some may be too big to wear all the time.

Some need an annual subscription. Others cost more initially but it's a one off fee.

I have a Findster which is perfect for round here where the mobile signal is poor. I highly recommend it but I don't think they make them any more.
