If your dog has a favourite family member, is it the person who spends most time with them?

Hope that question makes sense. I am meaning family members who live with dog. Not novelty people who visit like grandparents who are more interesting cos they are different. But in terms of who gets the dog on their lap or at their feet watching tv. Does it tend to be the perso. Who does the most- plays with them, feeds them, walks them. Or does that not factor?

Mine is a total mummy’s boy, I do the majority of walks/training/feeding. He likes to be in close full body contact most of the time when we’re at home! He does love DH and the DC and loves it when they’re around and we all go on walks together but he always has an eye on me. The bond I have with him is so much deeper than I expected and I love him hugely

My dog definitely has the strongest emotional attachment to me. But I am the one who does the majority of games, walks, feeds etc. I also love her to be on my bed to sleep.
She loves all the family but I'm the one she follows round and comes to first. If I go away for a weekend DH says she sits at the window looking for me.

Our Basset is "my' dog. I was the one with him the most the first 5 months of his time with us. (Then lockdown hit)

He has in the last few years formed a good bond w dh but these days dh is the one that's with him the most.

He adores all 4 (now adult) children and has a very different relationship with them all.

he has welcomed dd1s fiance and ds girlfriend. Gets as excited to see them as the kids..

He has plenty of love to go around.

However, the default human is me. He is 100% my dog. I wouldn't have it any other way either.

Our dog thinks DH is the most fun and would choose to follow him if we went separate directions. She runs to meet him when she hears him come home.

However, I'm her safety. If DH takes her for a walk she checks I'm there when they get home (she doesn't do the same for DH if I walk her), and she'll come to sleep on the floor on my side of the bed if I'm still there of a morning but doesn't do that when DH has a sleep in. She'll also follow me from room to room during the day, and again doesn't do that with DH.

So. I don't know if she definitely has a favourite, but she comes to me when she's worried so I think it might be me. Grin

My dog is completely 'my dog', we do the fun stuff together. She is with DH while I'm at work, but he doesn't do anything with her. He feeds her, but that's it. She is currently pestering me for her tea, though, as I'm here...

solvendie · 24/11/2024 20:22

My DH does the vast majority of walking/feeding but out GR has preferred me from day one. He was a bit older than the average pup when we got him due to him needing an operation. When we picked him up the breeder said to me ‘Look, can you see - he’s listening to you’. We just have an amazing bond.

Our WCS loves us all - but will favour me if we were all to call her.

My DH says I don’t smell wrong 😂

leia24 · 24/11/2024 20:23

I was always my dogs favourite person because I played with her and had her on my knee and took her everywhere with me

sleepwouldbenice · 24/11/2024 20:26

Our dog seems to love us all but his favourite at any moment in time will be the one who is most likely to give him food...
So if I am working and DH is in kitchen, even if not cooking, he'll go there and vice versa

ExhaustedHousewife · 24/11/2024 20:26

She's definitely my girl, but dad's her absolute favourite.im OK with this because I'm home all day and dad's a novelty 😂

user1471453601 · 24/11/2024 20:28

In my experience, dogs love the one that feeds them. They're not daft.

MaryGreenhill · 24/11/2024 20:31

No, it's my Dad , who is very quiet ,our dog worships him and vice versa😊

Hoppinggreen · 24/11/2024 20:33

Ddog has different relationships with all of us.
For cuddles its me, for walks and food its DH, for playing its DD and its DS if there is nobody else available.
He loves us all equally (except DS) but goes to us for different things

hiredandsqueak · 24/11/2024 21:01

I feed and walk ddog but her favourite is dd probably bacause she is happy to have her on her lap more than I do. She is also fond of ds and exh in fact I am probably fourth on her list of favourites despite spending the most time with her.
