Hi All

We are meeting this girl as a potential adoption, on website it just says crossbreed, I'm trying to work out what that might be, she has a look of a staffie, but maybe American Staffordshire bull? Any hazard a guess?

Any guesses of breeds

Any other pics? There’s definitely some bull breed in there but difficult to guess which one.

Timeforaglassofwine · 17/11/2024 16:30

What sort of weight and age is she? There is definitely Staffie in there, but the head isn't wide enough for American Staffie. Is she small, then I would guess Staffie x Jack Russell from the head shape and ears? That cross would make a nice combination.

Whatever she is she’s beautiful! She definitely looks like there’s some staffie there which means a Velcro dog, they’re super loving and affectionate

Hope the meeting goes well!

Bull breed cross obviously, but without a side on view and height and weight information it's very hard to tell.
Rescues have always said everything is a 'staffy' cross if their is any evidence of a bully head.
But an American bulldog cross is equally likely. An American staffordshire cross is far less likely as American staffordshire terriers are relatively rare in the uk.
I'm a sbt person through and through. I have yet to meet a cross that I have preferred to the real thing. They are a fantastic breed and you know what you are getting. When you cross them you can end up with anything so it's an advantage that this is an adult dog that has presumably been fully assessed.

Bull breeds are not known for getting on well with other dogs, but are historically very good with people, as back in the day there was a zero tolerance of human aggression in the stafford, ie they would shoot anything that showed human aggression.
This is where they get the reputation for being great with people.

She definitely doesn't look to be a size or type that could be falsely accused of being anything like an xl bully type which is great.
Good luck with your meeting. Would love to hear updates

Staffie X for sure & the colouring makes me suggest some bull mastiff perhaps.

Hope it goes well

Thanks all, hopefully the meet goes well .. I will update, and if we do adopt I'll get her DNA tested. She is absolutely beautiful I agree 🥰

@anoldcharter Nothing useful to add but wanted to say she's a lovely looking dog and I hope it all goes well 🙂

American Staffies are rare in the UK so unlikely to be that - I'd guess staffy, but with the colouring maybe some Frenchie too.

@RunningJo you were correct.... just had our house check and could ask more questions, she has been assessed as no xl bully breed which is good, they think she is a staffie bull mastiff cross, she is medium sized, about 27kg - anyone have any experience with this mix? from a quick read it sounds like it could be a very nice cross breed?

Looks a wee bit english mastiff in my opinion. So possibly Mastiff cross Staffy. Both wonderful, soppy dogs

coffeesaveslives · 18/11/2024 11:31

My main concern would be strength and how well socialised she is with other dogs:

Check out Staffordshire Bull Terrier Traits and English Bull Mastiff traits and stick a pin somewhere in the middle, with an added bit of mystery for the life experience she's had so far that will have shaped her behaviour.

Life long bull breed lover and friend here, she is gorgeous.

they have said she is quite strong on the lead, but is very food oriented so hopefully we can sort that out with consistent training. She loves other dogs, gets on very well with them and is well socialised, so that's good and important to us.
