Raw food experiences with over-excitable lead pullers

Hi all,

Our now 3 year old Bulldog is not calming at the rate expected 😆 He should now be in his calmer early adulthood, he isn't.

He current eats AVA large breed and butchers tinned on a 3:1 ratio. He has 4 Happy Heroes Calming tablets- just started this week and will do at least one cycle to see if they help. Gut is great, no tummy issues. Spoke to a friend earlier about trying a raw diet. Is there really a correlation between diet and hyper activity in dogs?

He gets overexcited to visitors like crazyyy. It's like a switch flips and he can't even hear his treat box rattling 😆. He has got better but really needs to rein it in. I know it's a training thing but we need that calmness to do it IYSWIM. Also loves a good lead pull, 25kg of pure Bulldog is such a pain every day. He is an intelligent (yet stubborn) breed so can learn well when calm.

Any suggestions on the above are greatly appreciated!

Diet can play a part in behaviour but honestly, the vast majority is management and training.

Thanks for replying. He is a wonderful wonderful dog and we couldn't be happier. Just wish he would calm in the house when people come over. Might look at some games to tire him out before guests come over. He loves showing off his tricks too, we could maybe do more training too.
Thanks

We wouldn't arrange to have any guests at that age unless the dog had been out for a good walk. They're like toddlers - you can't expect them to sit calmly and quietly without tiring them out first Grin

@coffeesaveslives it is so reassuring to hear that. We haven't been doing walks before as much as we should have. Definitely need to up our game with that too.

Researching some indoor games now too. Can't believe I have the hyper active Bulldog 😆

I've met a few hyper ones in my time - I think the stories about them being lazy and stubborn are a bit of a myth 😂

Our beagle always has a walk before guests come over even now, though he can settle without if necessary. It just makes it easier for us if he's tired out a bit - then if I give him a chew or something he'll busy himself with that and not be a pain wanting constant attention!

Absolutely a myth. They are wonderfully smart too. I love the laziness but they Absolutely love people and being around kids. But he is just so hyper 😆

OK, will stick at his regular diet and look at some other tactics.
