She neglected the dog

I have walked a dog through a charity for 5 and a half years for free. The dog is on loan to a woman who is supposed to be deaf but this is not the case and a charity rep said she should not have the dog. She has overfed the dog over the years which he was removed from her twice so they could get him to lose weight at the charity centre.

2 weeks ago I noticed he had red blood shot eyes with pus seeping. It looked really bad and I told the charity and the woman. The charity were subtle and came a few days later and pretended to do a routine visit. 2 days ago there was no improvement so I emailed the charity rep and then phoned a manager at the centre.

The woman who has the dog is furious and sent me a nasty message asking why did I tell the charity as they contacted her. She made up a lie saying the dog has been to the vets 5 times in 5 weeks but the charity have the vets records and said the dog has not been at all.

I was shocked I replied back saying I have walked the dog for 5 and a half years for FREE and that the charity has always said to report issues as the legally belongs to them and the are liable. She doesn’t get it, I had told her multiple times and I was concerned the dog could lose his eye sight as it is really bad.

This woman has abused the charity and does not need the dog. The woman told me a charity rep said she doesn’t need the dog. She just uses the charity to get a free dog as they pay the vet bills. Many times I have been there and she has lots of family and a grandson who could walk him and they sit in the living room eating take outs while I have walked this dog in the cold or dark.

The charity rep tried to talk me round it saying it would be sad for me to leave. I have had enough now of being used and disrespected. I love the dog so much and would miss him dearly. The dog’s well-being comes first.

Someone cheating a charity out of an assistance dog and money does not sit right with me. I feel the dog needs rehoming to a decent honest family who would look after him don’t really want to see this woman ever again, she is rude and entitled.

This dog absolutely need rehoming & rescuing from this awful, awful, person. To take advantage of charity is one thing, but to neglect (and frankly abuse) an animal is another.

can you go above the charity and report her for animal abuse? Or even report the charity for knowingly sending resources to a scammer and not looking out for the dog/doing their jobs?

Why can't the women walk her own dog?
I can't believe the charity have returned the dog twice, after she left it get overweight! At what point will they rehome it? Could you contact RSPCA? Is there anyone more senior at the charity to contact?
I'd step back. Maybe the charity has another dog you could walk instead.

Someone told me to post in the proper forum which is for dogs which is what I am doing. I want to know what others have done in sinilr situations. I want the dog to be well but don’t agree with the ethics of this whole situation.

It’s not even clear what your question is. What advice do you want?

I feel torn because I love the dog but can’t be part of this anymore. I need the confidence to leave.

No-one's attacking you, they're just saying not to post the same thing over and over.

I love the dog but I can’t do this anymore. It is not morally right. I feel I would let the dog down leaving but I don’t want to be part of this neglect and misuse of the charity anymore. I just don’t know how to diplomatically leave as I don’t want to get into a negative rant about leaving.
