Is this a food allergy?

Ddog is an eight month old cavapoo. For months we have had issues with the odd soft stool/ occasionally liquid. It’s only ever one of 3-4 bowel movements a day which is soft. The others are all usually fine. He’s only ever got me up once in the night to do a poo. That was after he ate quite a bit of deer antler. At first we thought it was dairy but more recently have wondered about other treats so we’ve cut back to just his kibble and a carrot a day. For treats he was only having some sausage treats from Aldi and a few of those bone biscuits you buy in bags from the pet shop. Has the odd bit of peanut butter too. It’s still happening even with just his kibble. He does however eat non food items when ever he gets his hands on them. Any toys get chewed and swallowed so generally he doesn’t have access to them. He might eat a bit of a stick. The main thing he manages to eat is the odd tissue.
I’m not sure if he has a food allergy (no itching at all) or whether it’s just a reaction to the non food items like tissue passing through. Are food allergies usually more severe diarrhoea? We’re coming to the end of his second big bag of puppy food (autarky chicken) so need to transition onto adult food so any suggestions would be good.
not discussed with vets yet as trying to work triggers out without going on expensive prescription food but I did do a giardia stool test which was negative

My border collie is 6 years old, he 💩 about 3 times a day, the first 2 are fine, but the 3rd of the day is usually runny. It’s not something the vets and I are worried about as long as most of the time his toileting is consistent. If you feed raw food, you will get smaller, harder, firm stools.

That’s good to know. We don’t want to raw feed. My husband has ocd around hygiene and there is no way he could cope with raw food

It can be a sign of just feeding/eating too much, especially if the first morning poo is fine but does a runny one later on. Basically the food just gets pushed through before it's properly digested.

Food allergies can cause upset stomachs, but it could be the things he picks up at a puppy. Unless you have allergy test's you aren't going to know for sure.
I would recommend looking at what food he is fed. We use Millies Wolfheart and it's a really good quality kibble, they also do a wet food. If you ring them or email they will help make the best choice for your dog.

It sounds like he might be being over fed - it's very common for that to show as runny poo as it just can't be digested properly.

The pet shop owner also suggested he was being fed too much and it was time to reduce his protein content from a puppy food to an adult food. I've bought some adult food to transition too and will try feeding him a bit less. He doesn't seem overweight at all but it's hard to tell as he's very fluffy. I can feel his spine and ribs relatively easily. Maybe he also doesn't do well haven't half of his food when out walking in an attempt to perfect loose lead walking. Maybe he's struggling to digest food he eating whilst on the move?

So his poos have been much better since we've started transitioning to another food. He even had a couple of hot dogs on Sunday as a training treat with no issues. However today he went for his first full groom. He had a rabbit ear from the groomer before he went in and when he got home had a very loose poo. Could the rabbit ear cause diarrhea within two hours or was it likely stress? He wasn't outwardly stressed/ anxious.

Most likely stress and the groomer probably gave him lots of treats, I know mine spoils my two with many treats and they usually have a loose poop.
