Anyone regularly travel abroad (France) with their dog?

Now our dog is fully settled in and happy travelling in the car, we'd like to start taking him over to france when we visit my parents and interested in the cost/practicalities of taking a dog abroad. I know you need rabies vaccination which last 3 years, but from what I can gather, you also need an animal health certificate for every trip which can cost £100-150. Is this right? Anything else we'd need? He's already microchipped an fully vaccinated. Would our insurers need to know or will we need special overseas cover?

We would typically go for a couple of weeks over Christmas and same again in Easter but longer (4-5 weeks) in the summer.

We took our pup down to my mums in Spain earlier this year and the whole process was quite easy.

The documentation from the vets cost about £190 but to be fair there is quite a lot of paperwork for the vet to complete.
As far as insurance goes, we upgrade to annual European coverage for about £20.

Then coming home we had to take him to local vets for paperwork to be signed and a worm tablet.
Our Spanish vet didn't charge for paperwork just a few euros for the tablet.

We went on Le Shuttle and the process was so easy. Had to take him and paperwork to the pet checkin and have his papers and chip checked.

Was an amazingly easy process.

Absolutely worth it.

Will be doing the same next year for a couple of months.

Enjoy!
