Dogsblog rehoming - which organisations are good?

Both our previous much loved dogs lived to a grand old age in good health, but we chose them as puppies in the UK. We are wondering if rescue is the way to go for our next dog, and have looked on dogsblog, who have lots of cat tested dogs/ puppies but mostly from abroad.

Is rehoming a pup unseen too risky? Does anyone have knowledge of the various dog rescue organisations on dogsblog (eg Hundogs etc), who is good/bad, approx costs, who knows their dogs well etc please?

Would value hearing the experience of others- do you regret rehoming a dog/ puppy you had never met, and if your rescue was good, who was it?
Thanks!

I had a dog as a foster with a view to adopt, and she's been here 12 years now.
She came from West Wales Poundies.
Dogs from abroad are often not accurately described and can have very complex issues.
I am a dog trainer and have seen a lot of Romanian Rescues, as well as those from Turkey and similar places. None of them have been straightforward, and all have had issues caused by nerves and anxiety.
I know not all dogs from abroad are like this but when you think about what they go through just to get here..... it's a lot for them to cope with and some never adapt to living in a home.
It's also very important to find a rescue that offers full backup so if it doesn't work out you are not stuck in a difficult situation.
Good luck with your research and I hope you find the right dog.

I got mine from JLP Trust who are featured on Dogsblog. I coudn't fault them and even seven years layer they like to get updates and share updates on their dogs. Bella cost me £150 and was probably the best £150 I've ever spent.

You need to make sure the rescue provides rescue back up in the event that you don't get on with the dog or something else crops up. A lot of companies selling dogs into the UK as rescues (as this is what a lot are doing, no matter how they dress it up) don't offer rescue back up or say they do and in practice don't. Also the relationship between dog and cat is often determined by the cat - if the cat isn't very confident and dog savvy and runs then even a steady dog may chase.

Woukd a breed specific charity be another option. Both me and my DFriend have adopted from breed specific charities, although they are different breeds and charities, and we've both had good support from them.

DDogs have been very much as described.

Thanks all.
We have found some specific rescues to consider, including one that does a 'foster to adopt' scheme, but it's very clear that some dogs may have experienced such a bad time they would struggle in a home, especially when they have come from awful situations abroad. We don't want to be selfish, but ultimately a dog will be a lifelong family member and much loved, so we don't want to risk too much...We are flexible about breed, the character is most important, and there are lots of issues to consider. Thanks for your advice!

That's one of the main reasons that we didn't foster or adopt from abroad, we simply would t have had the time of experience a DDog like they would need.
