Can anyone suggest a Dryrobe dupe?

Can anyone suggest one of these oversize waterproof coats or poncho that is fully waterproof but doesn't cost £100+ (& preferably has a pocked for treats!) Sick of getting wet & don't always want to wear thick winter coat & find my long waxed type coat quite restrictive & need to layer off before wearing or it feels too small.

Regatta have some - last time I checked they were on sale for between £50-80.

If you get hot in your usual coat you will find a dry robe style coat boiling (and heavy when wet and so baggy the wind blows you over!)

Reincoat lite is the thinnest but still over £100.00

Holland do long waterproof coats but you will be looking to spend over £100.00 for a good one.

Staying dry is expensive

Lands End do one. 30% off but that ends tonight. But I can't imagine walking a dog in such a thing.

I've just replaced my old & tatty Peter Storm with Helly Hansen Moss Raincoat.... I got mine from Amazon £74.95.
I did get a size bigger because I wanted to be able layer with a jumper or gilet underneath.

But would say that they are as advertised, true to size.

Will probably test it tomorrow or Wednesday - according to the weather forecast!

PS: I usually wear hiking leggings/ trousers and although they get wet, you won't feel uncomfortable or cold in them.

Better than walking around in a dry rope style tent!

Thanks all will take a look. Definitely don't want anything too warm more large waterproof covering!

@Ylvamoon any hiking leggings you recommend? My thing is wet socks I hate them haha

Ylvamoon · 07/10/2024 22:05

@byteme1011 I have craghoppers plain black leggings, no pockets - not sure if that's an issue for you.

They are very pricey at first glance, but I have had mine now for many years (5 or 6?), bought in a sale. They seem indestructible! I use them regularly throughout the year ... no issues summer or winter. Although when wet & very cold you have to keep moving for them to keep you warm.

Trousers are montane, and better than the leggings in wet & very cold weather!

I usually wear my hiking boots, no issues with wet socks to report.

Disclaimer: I spent many evenings in some wet, freezing, windswept field doing Agility... dogs are kitted out with eqifleece, if anyone is after a durable winter / rain coat for their active pooch.

I want to buy the viva mari raincoat. Haven't quite pressed buy yet. I get on better with thin layers

Doodledangle · 08/10/2024 12:46

@byteme1011 you need some long walking boots - I've got these ones from Ariat - not cheap but there are loads on Vinted under £100. I'm in my 3rd year of wear and still good as new. I NEVER get cold or wet feet (although admittedly they are too warm for summer!) and as long as you clean & use leather protector occasionally they will last you forever!

@Ylvamoon thanks for the dog suit recs - that was my next ask!

I still haven't made a coat purchase 🙄. I'm not convinved a dry robe type is what I actually need now and maybe just a better raincoat that is big enough to layer under. I really like those super soft buttery looking fabrics you see (mainly on posh mums out shopping rather than in the woods knee deep in mud!). Anyone know what I mean and if so whether they will withstand a bashing over a wet winter or two?

Do you mean the rubbery ones? I'm not sure if they'd survive an encounter with a bramble!

Barbour do longer, bottom covering, waxed coats with no filling (or very little) between waxed cotton and lining (a parker look). Joules do almost knee length very thin raincoats that are packable and a) don't look too bad b)can be lose fitting.
