I'm 71 and live with my autistic daughter. I'm the sole carer for our two little dogs. One is 13 and diabetic. I do his injections as my daughter won't do it.

He has recently become very incontinent in the house, he used to be so clean. I don't mind cleaning up but it's driving my daughter mad. She keeps having meltdowns about it and wants to have him put to sleep.

On top of everything else I've just been diagnosed with cancer and need a lot of hospital appointments.
When I'm not at home he just cries all the time which is making my daughter worse due to her autism.

I'm at my wits end over this. Any advice would be good!

13 is a good age and it's ok to let the dog go now. Incontinence is a sign they've reached the end of the line.

You have an awful lot to cope with there. You're probably worried when you're at the Hospital, your DD is having meltdowns which won't be pleasant for her, you or the DDogs and the DDog will be miserable if they are incontinent.

I'd talk to the Vet about what their thoughts are in letting DDog be out to sleep.

I once read a post on here that said better a day too early than a day too late. You don't want DDog to suffer Flowers

Thank you both for your replies. I'll probably take him back to the vets and see what they think. Up till now he's had a really good life. I'd just like to take him back to the beach one more time before I make the decision. It's heartbreaking 💔

Its very sad and it might be time to let your dog go BUT don't expect the vet to advise you to, most vets won't suggest PTS these days it will have to come from you

You can buy belly bands, a type of nappy that goes round their middle for a boy dog. Some breeders use them when they have both dogs & bitches living in the house when the girls are in season. For the crying, would he go in a crate made into a comfy bed, with an old jumper of yours, worn so it smells of you, cover the crate with a blanket or fleece. He will feel secure so fret less & be out of your daughter’s hair. Ithink vets have things to help with elderly incontinence these days but wouldn’t swear to it,others may know.
