We need a car that will fit two 50kg+ dogs behind the third row....is a Mercedes V class my only real option?

You would definatley need a van if you wanted all 7 seats up.

I had a galaxy at one point which happily fit 2 bergers in the back with the back row down, so 5 seats and a huge boot. No way would it have fit with the seats up so that rules out sharan etc as they are the same.

I think Ford transit custom also is an option, or VW transporter shuttle?

@Leonberger I'm thinking of the Merc V class. I like the look of the VW buzz but I don't think you can get the long wheel base in the uk yet and I'm not sure I'm ready for an electric car for long journeys.

@Bussesrus hope you find something! I would go V class if you can afford it. My dog friends have one and it’s lovely. Not too offensive to look at either unlike some of the van types.

The LR Defender 130 may suffice.

Doesn't OP want a car...not scrap at a garage because it's constantly broken down 😁

The new Volvo XC90 has a huge boot space - but that does rely on the two back seats being down (or one down).

Also, I think depends on what type of dogs. I have a 50KG Golden - he can fit in a tiny boot (Ford Fiesta, if necessary) but I wouldn't dream of trying to put a 50KG Bernese in a Ford Fiesta boot!

@Killingoffmyflowersonebyone One Bernese and one Newfie. The problem with the xc90 is the load height is ridiculous and I need to carry a ramp for the dogs. I was thinking a van could be easier and lower negating the need for a ramp. We also still have kids in car seats which means lower the seat to get people into the third row is an utter pig and big kids end up climbing over the seats.

@Bussesrus how often do you have the kids with you? At one point I had 3 in car seats alongside the dogs. I rarely take all out together now so can get away with a pair of large SUVs. One for the dogs and one for the kids. It’s made it much cheaper to run. If it was daily a van is definatley easier.

Lots of the large dog people have Ford toureno connects. Bit smaller but I’m not sure if it has a 7 seat option.
