Inflamed anal glands

Hi. My 9 year old Shih Tzu boy had his anal glands emptied today at the vet's. She successfully emptied them but reported that one was more difficult to empty than the other, that it felt inflamed, and that the discharge was thicker. She thought there may have been a bit of blood too.
I've to go back in two weeks so that she can check him over and determine whether he'll need antibiotics/further treatment.
My dog seems fine and hasn't been scooting across the floor since it happened!
Obviously I am taking the advice of the vet. But I wondered if anyone had experienced this situation with their dog, and what the chances are of it righting itself by the next appointment.
Thanks Smile

Our dog had one gland that was sorted with antibiotics. It hasn't come back.

I have 2 dogs. Both had similar issues. Generally resolved by antibiotics. In one case they took the dog in, sedated her, flushed the glands and packed with surolan or something similar to soothe her.
Worked perfectly and she has had no issues since.

[At one point removal surgery was suggested for recurring issues. And if done well it is a cure. But if not done well, you have a dog leaking faecal matter for ever. I refused, glad I did. If you have ongoing issues and this is suggested, ask for a referral to a vet-surgeon who has done this op repeatedly.]
