Are there any positive stories of dogs after treatment for leukaemia?

I already posted this but was a mess and didn’t really put an ask in.

Today we got the out of the blue diagnosis that our gorgeous 4 year old cocker spaniel has leukaemia. He’s having a biopsy at a specialist hospital 2 hours away on Wednesday and we’ll know more then. As a minimum he’ll need his spleen removed and chemo. If it’s spread then it may not be viable. the internet is very negative but vet was less so. I wondered if anyone has gone through this with their ddog and enjoyed a few years following recovery? Or am I totally unrealistic (I fear I might be)

I haven't experienced this and I'm so sorry you are. Hopefully someone will be along soon Flowers

I know of 2 diagnosed with leukemia. One was about 12 and the decision was made quickly to pts.
The other was a bit younger and the owner went down the chemo route. There was no operation/spleen removal though.
I think she survived for 9 months, but I don't know details on the quality of life. I remember being told that the injection of chemo really took a lot out of her, but she coped well when it was just the tablet version in between.
It sounds like you have been given more options and obviously your dog is much younger. I'm guessing there are different types of leukemia in dogs as in people and I hope treatment goes well for your dog.

Thank you @Abc1weabc1. turns out it’s not his spleen but lymphoma in spleen, liver and blood. He’s still his happy self, chasing squirrels like nothing is wrong. His symptoms are so mild people are shocked when we tell them because he’s still running laps round all the other dogs. Because his quality of life is still good, we’re going to go with chop protocol chemo which is the recommended one (most expensive) and insurance should cover it all. We’ll keep going while he’s still happy.
