ddog who is 11, 12 in november
for some time she has been waking at 5, but i get up 5.40 so that's ok
last few weeks she hs been waking me at 3 or 4
i take her out
come back to bed, an hour later she wakes again
last night i was up 3 times
occasionally i will feed her at the second waking so i guess i should stop that
i do throw stones for her in the garden which she loves is obsessed with
perhaps i have answered my own question.
anyone had a dog that does this night waking?

my previous dog had a bad habit of barking at 6.30, must have been back in the day when 6.30 was an inconvenience, as that is a lie in for me currently

What do stones have to do with scent games? Just use treats or toys, not something that's going to ruin her teeth Confused

oh she would love that!

My dog gets into these odd habits but I just refuse to play along , for about 3 months he had me letting him out at 1 am but I’ve just stopped doing it as it will be a nuisance when the weather gets bad and he wants to be back on the beds soaking wet . Now I’ve stopped , he’s stopped asking and he never has an accident indoors .

My 12 year old cocker spaniel has recently been doing this. Sometimes getting up as early as 4.45am but usually anytime between 5 & 7.30am. She occasionally wakes us at 2am but that's if she has an upset stomach so we don't mind that one.
Depending on how close to 6am depends on what we do. Before it she will get let out for a wee, have half her biscuits and then I'll go into the garden with her as she will then usually do a poo.
After 6.30 she will get all her biscuits after going for a wee and then I'll do the garden wander again.
We have noticed her having a wander around our room at about 2am, usually to have a drink, but usually just wanders. We think this is a start to dementia and she is also losing her hearing which I think isn't helping matters.
I will say, when I am up that early with her I do not fuss her or anything. Just matter of fact wees and food and no playing at all.
Good luck tomorrow 🤞

On the one hand you think she's too old to crate train, but on the other she's clearly been able to pick up and capitalise on this new routine for her own gain. You need to reinstate a routine that works for you and stick to it.
