Hi, I wonder if you could share with me your harness recommendations. I've had several, and my cocker spaniel hates all of them! Main requirements are as follows:

  1. One she can't back out of. I had one where she had to almost step into it and it did up on her back, and she managed to reverse and back out!
  2. One that's comfy under the front legs - I hate the thought of it rubbing

She has a collar, but despite lots of training etc, she still pulls so I'd rather a harness, particularly when my daughter is walking her for security.
Thanks!

Perfect fit harnesss are good. And they’re so helpful. My first one was not a perfect fit so I sent some photos and they replied immediately and sent out a different sized part that same day free of charge.

Another vote for Perfect Fit. My massive mutt has had hers for years. Very sturdy, good for shaping to unusual shaped dogs too.

Ruffwear Webmaster will be difficult to escape from! Not the cheapest but very well made and long lasting.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2024 12:57

We had a Cosy Dogs one - very easy to put on and it's got soft fleece not just webbing so it seemed pretty comfy.

Ruffwear Webmaster for Houdini-dogs.

my girl got out of hers once because we didn’t have the tummy strap tight enough (it had loosened over time and we hadn’t noticed) but apart from that it’s been really secure. Been using for a couple of years now.

For dogs that pull I highly recommend using a halti. Totally transformed our dog and she never pulls now.

PolaroidPrincess · 16/09/2024 18:59

Our DDog has a Perfect Fit too. 3 years in and it still looks good and she hasn't managed to get out of it, yet...Grin

Perfect Fit or Eagloo.

Stickytreacle · 16/09/2024 21:14

Drydog harnesses are escape proof.

frogpigdonkey · 16/09/2024 21:18

I've loved Truelove harnesses for my dog- very adjustable, very affordable and pretty secure

Ilikewinter · 16/09/2024 21:24

Another vote for perfect fit. May not be the cheapest but 3 years in it's good as new. Also has a front and back rings which is good for pullers..... although I have to say our ddog pulls like a train if clipped on the back ring, much worse than on his normal collar!

dinmin · 16/09/2024 21:26

Another vote for perfect fit
do not get a Halti (or any other) head collar - they are cruel

DrNowt · 16/09/2024 21:29

Another vote for Ruffwear Webmaster. Ours has lasted a good 7 years so far and going strong. As well as being escape proof, I like the handle on the back for hoiking dog out of canals etc

Lougle · 16/09/2024 21:33

Perfect Fit here.

alsopeggy · 16/09/2024 21:43

Perfect Fit here too. The rep came to the house to measure DPup - great service

Excitedannie · 17/09/2024 07:17

Looks like perfect fit is the one!!

No I won't be going down the halti route - her pulling doesn't really bother me - she's a very small cocker spaniel and the halti totally cut into her eyes and that was the extra small

Thanks for all your advice!

Halti do a 'no pull harness' that is not a headcollar. It has chest and back rings, a padded chestplate and adjustable neck and abdomen straps. The leg straps have adjustable padding which moves with the dogs movements and is used with a double ended lead. Our lab loves his. It is not cruel.

dinmin · 17/09/2024 08:25

I wasn’t referring to the brand in general. I specifically said headcollar.

KeenOtter · 17/09/2024 08:40

I always used to use Perfect Fit but on a couple of my dogs the strap under the shoulder was too close to the armpit despite fiddling with fit.

For these dogs the Dog Copenhagen was great as the arm fitting is further back on the dog. Non of mine have ever got out of them.

tizwozliz · 17/09/2024 12:13

We have both perfect fit and dog copenhagen comfort walk air harnesses and I think the latter fit better on our labs.

ThePure · 17/09/2024 20:44

Ruffwear webmaster I highly recommend

Impossible to escape from, adjustable for comfort and very hard wearing as well as smart.

Here is my gorgeous boy modelling his.

https://www.houndstuff.co.uk/ do fabulous escape-proof harnesses and everything is made to measure. If you contact Nikki, she will talk through all your requirements with you and her workmanship is second to none. I've had several items from her and they've all fitted perfectly.
