No

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 03/09/2024 15:55

No. Because the breeder is irresponsible and based off that alone, I wouldn't give them money. It's one thing to breed designer cross-breeds...but that particular cross-breed? No.

AnnaMagnani · 03/09/2024 15:56

Where is the puppy from? The mix is giving off a load of red flags for puppy farming.

LivelyMintViper · 03/09/2024 16:04

I know absolutely nothing about dogs. From what little experience I have I feel a husky mix may be unwise. I know some are very vocal and this may cause issues with neighbours. And would also have thought they'd need space and a lot of stimulation and exercise. But my lack of expertise will mean my concerns are dismissed

The 2 breeds are totally different- what are you looking for? What if the puppy gets the worst traits of both breeds? With a family dog character traits are important.

I have seen nice dogs from this cross but I wouldn't risk it personally with 3 kids for 1st time owners. For what it's worth, my friend has a husky/ pom cross the size of a pom, but the character of a husky. It's a nightmare- she wanted a small gentle natured, manageable, cuddly dog, but her dog is constantly boisterous and noisy and chases anything that moves. (We got a Pom when our kids were similar age to yours and he is great with kids, but they were relatively quiet kids and were already used to being gentle around small dogs).

If the puppy is coming from a responsible breeder who knows the puppies well- eg they live in the house, with cats/ children etc, and the breeder has observed their characters, then maybe. But you could go for an easier first time family dog!

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 03/09/2024 16:15

You should hold firm.

Clearly a puppy farm puppy or someone who has no clue about dogs. This will mean (a) puppy will almost certainly be sick and unhealthy, likely with serious health issues from either parent, (b) when the puppy goes horribly wrong, because quite frankly with three kids under ten there is no happy ending here, the seller will not take it back and, (c) the dog will, quite possibly, have the worst characteristics (which are very different given the two different purposes of the breeds) of both breeds - which will make it a total nightmare.

Bananalanacake · 03/09/2024 16:16

How does that work, huskies are pretty big and Pomeranians are small.

AnnaMagnani · 03/09/2024 16:17

Well I googled it for 10 seconds and found an article about them with a list of health problems, a list of behaviour problems and a clear statement they weren't appropriate for novice dog owners.

EmeraldIsla · 03/09/2024 16:30

This is the Siberian Husky Club's list of drawbacks to Huskies - pair that with the attitude of a Pomeranian, and rather you than me!

Obviously no reputable breeder would do this cross either, so they're starting with sub-standard dogs in the first place too, with no attention to health.

Negative points

The Minus Points Not a one-man dog- any human will do- this may be seen as a lack of loyalty. He will not guard your home or property. Strong desire to run. If he gets free he will run so far he will be lost, if not hit by a car or train, or shot [...]

This 😂

Rory17384949 · 03/09/2024 16:42

No I wouldn't have a husky in London, and not with young children either.
They're lovely dogs but need A LOT of exercise and are best somewhere they can run free

farleysrusks · 03/09/2024 16:44

Who put him up to that??

IME...the husky will be the bitch and they will have likely used artificial insemination (AI).

Which is actually fine - lots of breeders use it - but in this case, it's to create Frankenstein, not to help diversify the gene pool (which is why it should be used be used - I.e to bring in semen from dogs outside the UK to lower inbreeding etc).

WhamBamThankU · 03/09/2024 16:52

I wouldn't advise getting a husky.... and I've got one!

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 03/09/2024 16:55

I really hope this didn't involve a pregnant pom

powershowerforanhour · 03/09/2024 17:00

Pomsky. The new cockerdoodlepoo. Sigh. I suppose it's better than a rose gold double dapple dachsie or a Floofy Frenchie, or whatever other designer mongrels are cha-chinging the puppy farmers pockets these days.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 03/09/2024 17:05

A horrendous cross IMO.

Please don't. They are a disaster.

They’ll inseminate the bitch. They’ll obviously make sure the husky is the mother as otherwise the size of the pups will kill a Pomeranian. But what happens is that you’ll get an almost Pom sized dog on the outside, but with sometimes almost husky sized organs on the inside, which obviously leads to often extremely serious and fatal conditions. Anyone who does this on purpose shouldn’t be allowed with 20 feet of a goldfish

Yes. A ‘friend’ (he’s a prick) of dh is a greeder and did this mix. Produced and sold 3 pups who were fine at first. All were dead within a few months. 2 dropped dead with issues from enlarged hearts, another got very sick and died from what I think was an enlarged spleen

DeCaray · 03/09/2024 17:33

What an awful breed mix.

Please avoid.

Cute and fluffy as a puppy but they high demand needs as an adult dog.

KnottyKnitting · 03/09/2024 17:59

Pomeranians are small, yappy and bitey in my experience- huskies are loud and howly!

Doesn't sound like a good mix to me!

And erm one is considerably bigger than the other? The mechanics of how they managed to mate is rather mind boggling!

LivelyMintViper · 03/09/2024 18:03

It's not me. It's my ex dil and her new dp. No

I adopted a pomsky and as much as I adore him the shedding is horrendous. I thought I knew what I was getting into based on the breed and still it is beyond what I could have imagined. It is constant with two huge blow outs seasonally. My house is never clean, despite hoovering relentlessly and I have a lint roller stashed in my car and locker at work and I still end up finding hairs on me 😂

Hard to know what is ‘breed’ trait and what is the result of the poor thing being bounced around 4 homes before settling with us at 11 months old but when we first got him he guarded resources badly. Took a lot of work to overcome that trait. He doesn’t cope well with being left at home, though this could well be a result of DH working from home all through Covid as we only rehomed him in Sept 2019. He now goes to a rather pricey doggy daycare if DH needs to be at work 😅 I think as a first dog they’ll need more work than you think they will.

He definitely came from a puppy farm we think and judging by the number that end up in rescues as ‘ex-breeding’ dogs when the puppy farms have used and abused them I could never imagine purchasing a puppy from one of these places.. but I am biased seeing the mistreatment of our boy before he came to us.
