Why is my dog pooing in the house

I'm so fed up with it now, it's been going on for the last few months. Vets put it down to arthritis so she's on meds but it's not stopped it. It's not runny poo it's properly formed. This morning she had just been out and then came back in and got into her pooing position and did it in the kitchen!!
It's disgusting and it's really getting me down, obviously I'm cleaning thoroughly but I have a small child I feel it's so unhygienic.

Dog is 11 year old golden retriever. Could it be dementia or something like that? There's been no change at home or with her diet and no other signs of anything. Someone please help!!

It's 100% an age thing. Unfortunately this does just happen and it's really not unusual - sorry.

Can she still go for long walks? Does she have a good quality of life?

I had a cat that did that at age 13, she would also wee. Never did it when younger. There was a litter tray available but wouldn't use it. Vet said it was age related. There was no where in the house I could confine her to which was the only suggestion the vet had. Had to have her PTS in the end

It's just a normal part of old age, unfortunately - it's very normal with elderly animals.

Oh no that's so sad!
She can only go for short walks but still seems happy. My last dog lived until 15 so she doesn't seem old to me 😭

The average age of a golden is 10-12 years Flowers

Firstly, there are many treatments for arthritis and it is a bit potluck to find the best for your dog, so a change of meds might help. There might also be some degenerative nerve damage so that she isn't always getting the signals.
Just like puppies some dogs forget why they went outside, get distracted, come indoors and then need to go NOW. If that is the case you might need to go out with them and give them the cue to relieve themselves.
Setting up an indoor litter tray/peepad/sodtray isn't ideal but it might save you cleaning the whole floor

Our 13 year old retriever does this sometimes, it's like doggy dementia. They don't mean too.

Arthritis? My old dog had arthritis but never did that & he died at 13 still completely clean in the house.

A form of dementia sounds more plausible.
