How much for boarding?

Travar · 16/08/2024 13:43

How much do you pay for your dog per 24 hours, for home boarding? (Not kennels)

(Where the person has the dog in their own home, not yours.)

Is it just your dog they have or do they have a few, and are they licenced?

Thanks

£40 a night.

Im pretty sure she’s got a licence, definitely has insurance. (I know her as her dd used to be in my DDs class at primary, so although I pay her, I view it more as a friend looking after my dog and I didnt do the same checks as I would a stranger, I’ve been in her home before she set up dog care business when dd had play dates when younger etc)

Dog boarders must be licensed by law and they should have their details on display and available if you ask.

Around here, boarding starts at £30 a night. In comparison, kennels are £15 a night, and house-sitting is around £50 a night. I do the latter (sitting).

Our kennels is £25- yours is a bargain!!

They used to be even cheaper - £12 a night and £20 for two dogs sharing Grin

We're in a very cheap area of the NW though so prices around here are abnormally low.

My local kennel charges £24 a night.

longdistanceclaraclara · 16/08/2024 14:21

£40 per 24 hours for our brilliant one. She will only take one dog at a time (or more if from the same family group). We used to book her first and then make the holiday work around the dates as she was booked at least a year in advance.

ThePure · 16/08/2024 14:21

Just got mine back from kennels £18 per night and would have been cheaper if he was smaller. This included him being walked every day (videos sent) as well as let out to play which was why I picked it rather than the price. It was a mega bargain though.

ThePure · 16/08/2024 14:24

I looked into boarding as well and it was indeed around £40 per night but I was afraid he would not behave himself in someone else's house and lots won't take a big dog.

£40 a night here in the South East. Yes they are supposed to be licenced but it's hard to find licenced ones who have spaces.

Just be aware that if they're not licensed, they're also not insured and won't be covered in the event of an accident or any illness.

£25 a night seems to be the going rate here in the Midlands although I have seen some almost double that.

What I find annoying re the licensing is that there doesn't appear to be anyway of checking licences in our local authority area.

Monkeytapper · 16/08/2024 15:30

£20 a night at homeboarder , she charges us £35 for 2 though…home from home, Leeds, she is licensed and has 3 female rescue dogs herself, my two seem to like it as when they get dropped off they pull us up her drive way.

It should be on your council website - if not, you can e-mail and ask.

Thank you.

I'm choosing between

  1. £45 per night, only takes one at a time, has 1 acre of garden in countryside, very highly recommended, not licensed

  2. £35 per night, takes up to 4, town location, licenced

Both require 1 night trial stay.

It's up to you, but be aware that the unlicensed place won't be insured. It depends how comfortable you are with risk, I guess.

steadywinner · 16/08/2024 15:53

Have you looked at Rover? My dd looks after dogs using that app for about £22 a night.
