Dog sun screen

I have a white miniature schnauzer. Her skin is pink and it did occur to me that she could get sun burnt on the spots where her coat isn't very thick. I have googled and found dozens of different doggie sun lotions.
During her last visit to the vet (on a blazing hot day) I mentioned sunburn and she said that being white would protect her.
Any one have experience of dog sunscreen?

Not dog, but I had a horse with a pink nose that would burn badly. I used either zinc oxide cream or high factor kid's sunblock.

Now you can get fly masks that are UV protective - I wonder if there's a dog coat that would do the same?

Being white won't stop her burning!

This is an odd thing for the vet to say:

"she said that being white would protect her"

Noooooooo. It is the opposite. It is white dogs who are most at risk.. like fair people I guess.

A rash vest (sun vest) will only protect the body. Put a high factor baby / child / sensitve sunscreen on vulnerable areas like ears, nose etc.. and see how well that is tolerated. You can get dog sunscreen but I am not sure what the difference really is. Maybe non-toxic to pets in case they lick it off?

I agree with above post. We have a white breed and in the past we've used sunscreen on the top of their snout as they are heavy coated elsewhere but do seem to catch the sun there.
I haven't heard of dog specific sun cream but human products are fine provided they are child friendly and, more importantly, fragrance free.

Bizarre thing for the vet to say.

We used to put sunscreen on my westie, think it would be even easier now with the sprays available.

We use a doggy sunscreen from Pets at Home for our beagle - he's white and tan and loves laying out in the garden. I figure it only takes a few seconds to spray it on him and it could save his lfie.

She was a new vet at the practice which has recently been sold after my lovely vet retired. She was extremely grumpy (very hot day) and short tempered with the reception staff. I wasn't impressed with her views and just keep my dog out of the sun where ever possible. Will defo get her some spray on sunscreen!

My dog has very thin hair on her belly and used to love sunbathing when she was younger. We always used the Boots soltan for babies or the Aldi lacura for babies on her belly. Did the job!
