Am I being to suspicious

I have been looking to adopt a dog from a well known rehoming site I have noticed a few dogs that I like that are between 2 to 4 years old , the people who are advertising these dogs are saying that due to personal reasons they are reluctantly having to rehome their pet, now I get that unforseen circumstances can crop up but some of these people have been members of this site for 2 years or so, Am I being to suspicious.

YANBU. Also Preloved etc are not rehoming sites, they are selling sites. No decent breeder or dog owner would use Preloved to find a home for their dog.

They're often fronts for puppy farms. The older dogs being sold on their are usually ex-breeding stock.

Go to a legitimate breeder or use a proper rescue like Dogs Trust.

Please tell me not using some random website like gumtree or pets4homes?!

If so, you have no business having a dog tbh. Completely irresponsible.

On pets4homes, Preloved, gumtree or similar?

They're either ex breeding stock or pandemic puppies with serious behaviour problems that the owners won't mention.

Go to a proper rescue - they're full to bursting at the moment and you will have a good range to choose from.

Thank you for your comment, you don't work for Citizens advice by any chance 🤣

When you say adopt do you mean purchase , adoption is from a rescue . What sort of dog are you after ?

It seems like it. Guess the RSPCA, Dogs Trust etc are banging their heads against a brick wall.

Sadly yes. There's been enough about it in the news and online for years. I would have thought everyone who hasn't been living under a rock would know.

Other posters are, like me, concerned about online sites such as those mentioned above. However, as has been discussed at length on another thread, trying to rehome from a rescue can throw up instant barriers if you don't have 6ft fences, or you don't meet another criteria, such as living well away from a main road.
Puppies are hard work, and are not for everyone.
If you are going to consider a rehome from out 'there', you may want to take a few precautions:
Don't part with any 'deposit' money. Pay only in full and only when you have the dog in your possession.
Choose somewhere where the dog is already fairly local so you can visit several times. See if they will visit you with the dog to check out your home suitability.
Buy a microchip scanner. Check their vet records match what you have been told before you take on the dog. Walk away from a dog with vaccination records that are incomplete, lapsed or a dog that is over 2 and not neutured because it suggests inadequate care imo. More than one owner? Another red flag if the dog is still young.
If the dog has received all its worm/flea treatment at the vets, this would give added reassurance for me that the dog is in good health, as vets will check the dog's general health every 6 months when the prescription is renewed.
Take the dog out for a walk with the owner a few times. Check how s/he is with strangers, traffic, other dogs and runners. Judge what the dog's existing home is like. No photos, wall hangings or nick nacks would be a reg flag for me, and if they have only recently moved into the area, I would probably walk away straight away.
Best of luck with whatever you decide.
