We're taking a short break to Northern Ireland next week, and want to take our dog. He is chipped and is up to date with the regular Lepto vaccine, but nothing more. We have read the .Gov regulations (brought in in 2021) which state that he will need a rabies vaccine, ringworm treatment and pet health certificate, but that no checks will be made on entering Belfast unless there are welfare concerns? Another site says that regulations have changed and none of this is necessary as long as we don't travel to the ROI. Has anybody travelled with a pet to Belfast via ferry who would have experience with this please. Many thanks.

Nothing is going to be checked up on, I am taking my two dogs to NI next week, family live there and the dogs travel back and forth no issues

I travelled over there last year (from Scotland) with no paperwork - nothing was checked either direction. The wording on DAERA has changed slightly since I went but it still basically says the same - that they won't be doing checks.

I'm in NI and have never known of anyone having checks, whether it's between us and GB or us and Ireland

Thanks for the replies. We've booked him into a pet sitting service with some friends, so he's off to have his own holiday. We worry way too much about being caught out. I would have chanced it, but Dh wouldn't.

I travel a couple of times a month on the ferry to northern Ireland with my dog. No checks are done - I do travel with a photo of her vet book with all the jabs recorded but not the book itself, just make sure that even if your dog is staying in the car, that you add them to the booking, I forgot once but book premium so it was free to add thankfully.

Thats a shame, I arrived yesterday - theres zero time or opportunity for you to be questioned about the dogs
