I have two 1 year old labradors who are costing me £%%£ in beds! Does anyone know if chew resistant beds actually exist??? The picture attached shows what I have to contend with every single day Hmm

My dog chewed his lovely soft expensive bed, I then changed it to the plastic one with a cushion inside. He hasn’t chewed that, yet, it’s been 6 weeks.

When are they chewing? If it's when they are alone then it's likely to be stress or boredom.

Quite honestly my puppies and young dogs have had old rags in carboard boxes until they grow out of it.

Chewing can become a real long term problem so it's best to redirect to chew toys when you see them doing it. My current dog has never chewed anything she shouldn't as we always redirected her and supervised until she was mature enough to be alone.

Our last dog just had a high sided plastic bed with blankets in it,

Mine has a raised bed he killed everything else just had a bit of vet fleece on but then would sleep on the rug (golden retriever) you can just wipe the mesh type part down and fleece goes in washing machine so low maintenance

Two one year olds? Are they littermates? If so (and even if not) it’s not the inadequacy of the dog beds that is the problem.

SaintHonoria · 04/08/2024 16:59

Years ago people wouldn't sell cot mattresses and would give them away. I used to sew slip covers for them made from old duvet covers and donate to a dog shelter near me at the time.

Mrsjayy · 04/08/2024 17:03

My . dog can't have those fluffy beds thats meant to calm them it whips him into a frenzy and he has to "kill it' he has a padded one from mountain warehouse which he doesn't chew and a mat in his night crate that he doesn't chew. Bit of fluff though and he's murderous 🤣

EdithStourton · 04/08/2024 17:12

Tuffies do one that is meant to be pretty much chew-proof.

muddyford · 04/08/2024 17:25

I have hard plastic dog beds lined with lots of vetbed. I have never had the problem that your photo shows.

CoffeeGood · 04/08/2024 17:26

I used to work in a pet shop. There's no such thing! 😂Although as others have said, the plastic beds with blankets / old or really cheap duvets in seem to last about the best, although I've seen photos from dog owners who have also chewed through them!

muddyford · 04/08/2024 17:26

Mine are a Lab and a spaniel, btw.

Ihateboris · 04/08/2024 19:16

Thank you all for your replies. It's just during the night when they're alone that they chew the bedding. They have plenty of toys but prefer their bedding!

Yes, they're from the same litter.

They grow out of it. Raised bed and a fleece.

Dearg · 04/08/2024 19:40

Tuffies bed was fabulous when my dog was young. He sleeps on our bed now🙄

AbsolCatly · 04/08/2024 20:03

Dcollie chewed through the pretty, cosy, fluffy beds (and all soft dog toys) she now has 4 old pillows from our bed with her own pillow cases in her crate - door permanently open and is her safe space. These have survived and are easily washable.

showeringthisaft · 04/08/2024 20:12

Just get the hard plastic beds and put some blankets in there. Might even pick up blankets from charity shops.

Vegemite001 · 07/08/2024 10:06

Our dog destroys all bedding. Even vet bed. And the solid plastic ones get chewed so much that they are dangerous to walk past. My dog actually has no bed, but seems to move around the house overnight, finding his favourite spot.

Omg, yes. .they've actually chewed the plastic beds and I've cut myself on them! They'll just have to sleep on the floor! Just out of curiosity, what age and breed is your dog?

My daughter cut her leg - it was the point we decided to give up! Such a shame, as I thought the plastic fernplast bed + vet bed was a good solution.

He's an 18 month old golden retriever. He can't be trusted with any soft toys, either (even the posh kong ones), which is a shame as he loves them. However, he doesn't chew furniture (any more), and only chews my husband's slippers, so isn't nearly as bad as it sounds.
