FGS my dog has just purloined 6 carrots and buried them in the garden

Left them on the side, forgot to shut backdoor, popped upstairs for a shower and when I came back they were all gone - 6 neat little mounds spread about the garden and one very proud looking dog licking her paws clean.

I can't decide whether to laugh or be very cross with her... she really does like carrots!

Oh bless her! Mine would just eat them! She has a carrot every evening.

The Sainsburys delivery guy was most surprised one morning when he was delivering and the carrots were loose in the box and she just helped herself!

Oh my god this is actually so cute!!

Sunshineafterthehail · 02/08/2024 15:33

Last weekend someone left the freezer door open a bit... Not enough for the bloody alarm to go off though... Ddogs ate a whole frozen seeded loaf and 1kg of frozen chicken portions....

And at Easter we always have traditional fish in parsley sauce... Fish man read leave in porch as go into the hallway of our house... Ddog ate 10 portions of cod. Raw. Costing £50. Al had been individually wrapped in heavy duty plastic...

Roserunner · 02/08/2024 15:59

That's really cute! Our dog loves carrot as well, he now stands next to be expectantly if I get the chopping board out!

Darklane · 02/08/2024 16:20

😂😂😂
This thread has cheered me up no end.
One of ours had a really sweet tooth & my old dad, who was living with us, had a habit of leaving an opened bag of toffees on the coffee table. Wily minx was too clever to pinch the bag & get caught so used to take them one at a time, never disturbing the bag. Heaven knows what she did with the wrappers.
Another one used to do the usual of pinching socks etc but one day she pinched & ate a large cleaning cloth. Didn’t even miss it till a couple of days later it began to emerge from her bum. Didn’t dare pull it so for several days she did a great job of sweeping the floor wherever she went till the last bit emerged.

@Sunshineafterthehail Wow you've got one hungry dog! I hope your dog has a good digestive system!

My mums dog... as a puppy... ate over half of the Christmas eve ham... complete with glaze. It was my mum and dads first Christmas married and living in their new home... and instead of a lovely romantic night and their planned breakfast in bed they spent most of it clearing up sick and poo.

Dog currently in kitchen where our Ukrainian guests are feeding her what looks suspiciously like chicken stuffed pancakes which she's showing no inclination to bury but wolfing them down. She's learnt to respond to quite a bit of Ukrainian mostly food related

Proof of cast iron gut was the summer she ate a pink flip flip. All except the toe post bit... Ddog gets packed off to kennels now. Dc aren't to be trusted in supervision...
*btw the dc in question was 30...

This has just made me laugh so much - you can't possibly get cross with her (as I'm sure you didn't).
I remember years ago, I had a grocery delivery and had bought a wooden rolling pin. I walked off to do something and the next thing I knew, my dog was strolling through the house with my rolling pin in her mouth and a very pleased expression on her face. I think she thought I'd just bought her a huge stick.

purpleme12 · 02/08/2024 16:41

😂❤️

travelforthesoul · 02/08/2024 16:42

Mine just eat the carrots - but bury dog treats... she is a weirdo

fiftyandfat · 02/08/2024 16:44

When I was a child we had 2 cats, brothers, one ate half a fairly substantial chocolate cake and the other ate a large chunk of Christmas cake that was waiting on the side while my mother made the marzipan and icing. Both cats lived to a ripe old age.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 02/08/2024 16:51

😆🙈🤣Love it.

My dog once ate the Christmas ham too, wasn’t sick though.

My parents JRT ate a load of fisherman’s friends and chocolate. He wasn’t sick either! and back then they didn’t know about chocolate danger.

However my Lab stole a truffle and seemed to be hallucinating and panting- awful. We didn’t know why he was acting strangely, but found the packet after. Won’t have them in the house now.

I had a delivery of a lamb for the freezer . Neighbour delivered the box of lamb , all jointed up , ready to put away . I opened the box , not realising the butcher had left an open bag of bones for stock on the top of the joints. Spotty dog barrelled me out of the way, seized a square palm sized piece of bone and swallowed it whole. One emergency trip to the vets , an emetic jab and an afternoon spent on the vets lawn with an umbrella and a sick bucket , we got it back .

Did she care ? Not one tiny bit 🤣

MaturingCheeseball · 02/08/2024 17:01

Love a greedy dog story!

When I was young the neighbour came round, hands on hips, accusing our spaniel of stealing their Sunday joint. Dm hotly denied it and stoutly defended Dog. That night Dog was terribly ill and eventually a long piece of string emerged from his backside…

CoffeandTiaMaria · 02/08/2024 17:08

My wonderful lurcher came home with a cooked whole leg of lamb, clearly someone had just taken it out of the oven…. She regularly bought baby rabbits (unharmed) into the house and when we had kittens she would carry them around all day 🙄
She was as daft as a brush, bless her.

drivinmecrazy · 02/08/2024 17:10

Our dog eats all treats before they've even hit the ground.

But we've been blessed with at least five holes in which we would be consumed in our entirety should we fall down

Pretty bad news for me as I'm half way down a bottle of Chardonnay!!

madmumofteens · 02/08/2024 20:08

I left out 4 x frozen chicken breasts was skint and emptying the freezer went out for 30 minutes came back and they were gone dog had scoffed the lot 😳 I phoned the vet in a panic was worried she would be ill she said to feed her rice and cooked chicken for next few days fgs I didn't have any chicken even for us dog was just fine 😂

Soubriquet · 02/08/2024 20:17

Years ago on New Year’s Eve, I had gone to a pub with some mates. Was about to sing on the karaoke when I got called home (I still lived with my parents). My gannet of a dog who had food sensitivities anyway, decided to rip open a bag and chow down on discarded popcorn lush used to package their soap products with. He spent the night vomiting and diarrhoeaing. I can’t imagine it tasted nice since like I said, it was packaging for soap!

listsandbudgets · 02/08/2024 21:24

She's just dug one up and is lying on the lawn munching on it. DP wondered if we should wash it off and I told him nonsense she eats shit, sand, discarded food and grass - a bit of garden mud will be fine

listsandbudgets · 02/08/2024 21:29

@AddictedToBooks no I didn't get cross with her - she looks so dejected and miserable if I'm ever cross with her so I reserve it for the very worst things like stealing someones steak pasty on the beach so I had to apologise profusely and then go off and buy them another

OP posts:
vodkaredbullgirl · 02/08/2024 21:30

My labs would have eaten them 😆

shellyleppard · 02/08/2024 21:32

@Sunshineafterthehail omg was your dog okay??? The vet bill must have been horrendous.....

LargeSquareRock · 02/08/2024 21:32

Burying food for later is not a concept my labrador could grasp.
