Dog maithering us in the night

She sleeps in our room (I know!) and generally although she moves around a bit she's no trouble.

A couple of nights though recently, and particularly last night, she's been maithering us in the night. She didn't want out, or water, or fed...not sure if she's just bored.

I am a terrible snorer (possible sleep apnoea) and DH is wondering if she's waking me up to stop me snoring, or one time he was worried as I'd stopped snoring and so was she...

But she was also just maithering when I was lying there trying to get back to sleep..

Or is she just bored? Anyone else's dog do this?

How old is she? Our dog sleeps in our room and if there has been a change or one of us has been away she will sometimes wake us up in the night just to check were there. We just put our hand down and she then goes back to bed once she’s had some reassurance. It’s common with younger dogs or sensitive ones if there has been a change or upset. Giving her reassurance doesn’t make her worse.

That could be it...there have been some changes in her routine. She's 4 but a bit nervous.

With ours we give her a short fuss, tell her she’s a good girl but back to bed please. She knows this cue and she always trots back and goes back to sleep. So I’d just go with it if you think she’s been a bit unsettled.

Is she too hot ? Our dog sleeps in the bedroom and I’ve had to put him a fan on for the past week or so , floor level facing his bed .

Mine gets like this when he’s too hot. In and out of bed all night, whining and mooching around the room. Is it particularly warm in your room?

Could she be responding to your sleep apnoea? As well as snoring you might be not breathing for periods and maybe she is aware of this and on the alert? If you haven't already it might be worth getting a sleep study done. DS had sleep apnoea - he's much better now after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy - but the cat used to hover near his bed when he was having a bad night almost like she was watching over him.
