Owner wants £1k for rehoming

Looking for another dog after my lab died this year aged 10. Always loved labs and would like another. Nothing in local rescues but I have seen a lovely dog, aged 2 online. Owner wants £1k for him. New baby forces sale, he says. Is that reasonable? KC pup would cost similar.

Decent breeders insist that dogs are returned to them if the owners can’t keep them. Plus you have no idea if this dog has medical or behavioural issues.

Thanks Hotel.. will have a look.

They are selling their dog not rehoming it. I wouldn't pay £1,000 for a second hand dog.

Sounds a bit off tbh. Definitely try for a rescue, even if it's far away it's better morally and ethically. If they just had a baby, did they not know they owned a dog when she got pregnant? Did the dog try and eat the baby? If it's so urgent why do you want so much money?
Yeah, steer clear I'd say.

Our last lab was a Guide Dog why didn't make the grade. So we def top drawer rehomers.

I read a good description of labradors:

0-4 months - Andrex puppies
4-24 months - velociraptors
24 months+ - lovely dogs

We're firmly in the velociraptor stage and counting down the days!

I think it's sad but not uncommon for new parents to consider giving up a dog when a baby comes along. I personally could never give a dog away but there are plenty of people out there who would.
If you have fallen for the dog, pay the £1k and bring him to the loving, stable home he needs and I'm sure you will give him.

Definitely not!!

People like that owner disgust me. He is seeing his lovely Labrador as something he can just dispose of, like a jumper on Vinted because he has got something else now. And hoping to get some cash in the meantime. Poor poor thing. Off to give my lovely lab a cuddle. So sorry for the loss of yours.

You are very right. Our 4 year old still has his moments but he was a little bugger during the puppy years (albeit a very cute little bugger). Peak naughty age was 11-15 months hahahahaha

Oh heck. Most would say ‘how can you eat a whole kitchen’ but when you have a labrador you know that this is totally feasible.
Our boy is currently going through a grass and poo eating phase (nice). He has fortunately never been that destructive.

I've always had Labradors and can understand the temptation. But don't do it for all the sensible reasons from PPs. If you are west of roughly Oxfordshire, the Labrador Rescue Trust are excellent (used to assess potential dishonestly them).

I rehomed a pair of dogs (M working cocker & F labradooodle). Owner seemed genuine. Wanted no money but insisted I had them spayed as he didn't want them bred from (though he had, 2 litters). The M cocker was aggressive with my Son quite quickly, even post neutering. I rehomed him with full history via a specialist cocker charity - I hear he is doing well. The labradoodle is a much loved pet.
I absolutely believe in taking on a dog, rather than getting puppy, but it's quite a risk this way.

If you have a one and only lab they lull you into a false sense of security. Training as a puppy you think you’ve absolutely nailed recall, sit, stay, down etc. then the teenage years hit and they lose their ears, like literally, their ears fall off 😂😂.

We have 5 labs and they’re much easier with other fully trained dogs to learn from although playtime can be chaos!

No dog is worth that amount of money

I always laugh when people say if you want the dog you'll pay x amount no Karen, no I won't.

You spenf thousands on them during their life time,no way I'd give a greeder that amount of money.
