Worried about Labrador

I will say he has a vets appointment next week.

He is a 9 year old golden Labrador.

In the last week, he has spent more and more time outside, just wanting to sit on the grass, even when it's not nice. He has also started scratching at our conversation door, something he has never done before and even if he only has been out 2 mins before. Since Sunday, he has now started to headbutt the door leading into the conversation which is glass, and I am worried he is going to break it, he has done this 3 times overnight too today. I'm very tired.
Any ideas why?

Could be doggy dementia

Hi did wonder that @DustyLee123

Would it come on this quick though?

He had cancer last year. We can't leave the door fully open because I have 2 young children and it doesn't solve the overnight either!

The signs of dementia can come on quite fast in dogs.

I would also worry about pain or loss of vision. Can you get him into the vets any sooner? I wouldn't want to leave it a week with those symptoms.

We can't get him into vets quicker, unless he is in visible pain they have said. Husband is on holiday next week too.

I'm am worried about him, they won't be able to do anything if the cancer is back unless a £5000 operation at a specialist. But I'm not sure given his age, whether it's the right thing to do, because they have said even then he would lose a lot of his body mass and not get all the cancer out.

What sort oof cancer did he have? is it one that could reoccur? I would really try and bring the vets appointment forward.

somsaa · 11/06/2024 16:58

It was sarcoma in the Lower abdomen, they didn't know it was cancer until afterwards

If they can see him if he's in pain, they can see him if he's not - I would really try and push for an earlier appointment given his history and behaviour.

I would very much push for him to be seen before the weekend, my vets have always managed to give me a same day appointment if I feel it's warranted.
