Does professional grooming reduce the amount of dog hair in your house? My sofa (and me) is covered with white hair from my Jack Russell.

My two are terrible at the moment - winter coats coming out. They only brush past me or the furniture and it's covered!!!

They do need grooming . My patterdale x dropped hair like mad during lockdown when I was doing the grooming and no baths . His hair is equally as long again now , he has a bath and trim with scissors at the groomers every 2 weeks ( skin issue ) and we get literally no hair indoors .

White JR owner here.
Same with our dog.
My clothes have a mohair look.
I hoover then have a lint roller on the sofa

Dog groomer here👋
Regular bathing and brushing will certainly help keep on top of the shedding.
Unfortunately JRTs moult fairly considerably, and being white you'll notice every tiny hair on anything even remotely coloured/ dark.

Best advice would be to go out and get yourself a rubber brush - something like a Kong Zoom Groom would be ideal.
If you don't usually brush you may need to start more gently and build up to a more vigorous stroke over time so that they can get used to the sensation.
I'd suggest doing the brushing in your garden on a day when you don't have any washing hanging out to save you spending the rest of your life hoovering or rewashing clothes.

Most groomers will have really good quality shampoo and a high velocity dryer which make all the difference in the world. Though again it would need to be introduced slowly at his pace so the results may not be perfect immediately. You'll also always notice some level of moult even after grooming as that's just the nature of dog hair.

To give you an idea of how much difference it can make - I washed my own tiny chihuahua yesterday for the first time in 8 weeks and ended up with a huge ball of hair that I couldn't close my hand around!
As a bonus she's been much happier and cooler since having it all out, too!

I think everyone's dogs are moulting hard at the moment!

My goodness! Short haired Jack Russells shed like nothing on earth! All year. How do such small dogs have so much hair? My JRTs were much worse than my dalmatian. I now have two rough coated JRT and they are nowhere near as bad as the short haired ones were. FWIW I find the best thing is little and often brushing. I give them both a quick brush when I brush my hair every night and morning. Good luck!
