Public park, seeds and dogs...

I have just been walking my dog in a public park and saw that we was eating some flowers seeds that have just been sewn on a mud bed in the park. I pulled him away as soon as I could. I have been trying to call the vets for advice but the line is currently just ringing out.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm hoping as it's a very common dog walking park the seeds will hopefully be quite harmless.

Ugh the anxiety! My dog is a whippet and a known scavenger so ingestion of all sorts of crap is a daily worry as it is 🙈

There won't be much the vet could do anyway except make him sick, but you have to get there within a certain time frame otherwise it's pointless.

I'm sure he'll be fine, just keep an eye and if he shows any worrying symptoms then take him in - mine is always scavenging and seems to have a stomach of steel Grin

Well, he's been super hyper this afternoon.

And he's eaten a full bowl of food and tapped his bowl for more but I supposed any reaction could still happen....

I think it's time to get a muzzle....

Bless him, sounds positive!

Just be aware that they can still eat some things through a muzzle - so if he's a poo eater or anything just be ready 😬

My dogs are terrible scavengers despite being very well fed. They are muzzled for all walks because there's no telling what they'll find under hedges or in long grass. Someone was scattering raisins for the birds recently, and other times I've seen take away chicken bones dumped, both of which my dogs would eat and could seriously harm them. Muzzles are not cruel, a basket style that fits properly allows them to sniff, pant, drink water and take treats is best. The soft strappy ones are horrible. Another bonus about having your dog muzzle trained is you'll never have to worry about them biting the vet etc.

Sunflower seeds aren’t toxic for dogs

Ye, we have been looking at muzzles just for high walking traffic areas such as parks where all sorts is dropped on the floor or when when we go out in the camper the odd weekend, he loves to eat dropped BBQ tucker from fellow campers.
