Old boy not sleeping through

Ddog is a nearly 13 year old Portuguese rescue. We adopted him at 9 years old and to say he's been a dream dog is an understatement. He sleeps, eats, toilets, walks and pootles through life like an absolute champ. And apart from a couple of periods of upset tummies he has always comfortably slept through the night.

In the last two weeks his sleep has become hugely disrupted. He is waking multiple times in the night and barking to go out only to wander aimlessly around the garden. He sometimes toilets on these outside trips and sometimes doesn't. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason.

He is currently on pancreatic support meds following his diagnosis of low level pancreatitis but he hasn't shown any other indication of any pain or being bothered at all. The wandering and barking has been happening since before he started the tablets. I'll of course speak to the vet if this continues but any ideas before I do so? I am very tired!

The only other change in the last two weeks is that my wife has found out she is pregnant... but old boy so far seemed oblivious to this. He isn't any more interested or otherwise in her but wondered if this might also be relevant

Aww...maybe a little bit of old age dementia happening but it doesn't mean the end is near - far from it! we use CBD oil rubbed on the gums- seems to calm dog. But do speak to your vet, good luck👍

and it seems to come and go ..

It sounds like a bit of dementia.

Speak to the vet - there's medication available that will help.

Thanks all I will speak to the vet. I did wonder about dementia but he's still so alert and with it in the day. I've just been reading about sundowners though.

Last night he was up at 1, 2:30, 4, 5 and up for the day at 6... maybe this is practice for a newborn..!

DW is shattered so I'm doing all the get ups with him at the moment. Love him dearly but I was a bit grumpy by 6am
