Left our dog this morning for an hour to go shopping.
Came back and he'd raided the bread bin.
I don't think there was too much in there but since then he's been quite lethargic.
He's just been laying on his bed in the garden and hasn't even been following me when I go inside.
Usually he's a real Velcro dog.
It's quite warm here (not in uk) but not enough to sap all his energy.
Was thinking of taking him for a walk to see if he perks up but am wary of bloat.
For reference he's a 16 month old 32 Kilo Weimaraner.
Would you take him out or not?
I could walk him on the lead but we're in the country side so that'll be a struggle

No advice but I recall my dog snaffling some out of date, part baked garlic bread from the bin. He was lethargic, but his arse was hyper! We had to vacant the house as the smell was soooo horrific.

Bread isnt anything to worry about

fieldsofbutterflies · 18/05/2024 16:16

Bread shouldn't cause this kind of problem - are you sure he's not eaten a plastic bag or something that could cause a blockage?

If he were mine I would be calling the vet, not taking him for a walk.

drivinmecrazy · 18/05/2024 16:20

I'm as sure as I can be that he ate nothing else.
He just got up to bark at the goats being herded past our gates.
Think I'll take him out on the lead and see how he goes 🤞

I think I'm just over thinking it because I'm over here on my own to visit DM and my DC & DH would never forgive me if anything were to happen to him!!

The problem is that as you weren't home, you don't know that he hasn't eaten something he shouldn't.

Bread and warm weather shouldn't cause lethargy to the extent that you're this concerned.

drivinmecrazy · 18/05/2024 16:26

Yes you're right.
I'm going to get his harness and lead out and see if he perks up and then take him for a short walk along the Camino.
Trouble is he has form for sulking, costing us a fortune for unnecessary trips to the vets.
We have a great local vet and plenty of insurance so I'll see how he goes

He's got the carb sweats

HaystackHair · 18/05/2024 16:33

I'm also prone to raiding the bread bin then feeling lethargic. As others have said though, think about what else he could have eaten. Not sure whether uiu should give access to loads of water or not.

Notsoflirtythirty · 18/05/2024 21:22

My greedy dogs eaten a loaf of bread before, he had the squits the next day but was fine. I think its only bread dough you need to worry about as it continues to prove in their stomach's

drivinmecrazy · 18/05/2024 21:35

Thankfully I can report that he's back to his normal self being a pain in the arse.
Whatever caused his malaise has passed and he's back to barking into the darkness and freaking himself out by trying to outwit the geckos 😂
