Seeking a waterproof coat for a Leonberger

...preferably with legs and not costing an arm and a leg!

She is a young adult, athletic, lives rurally in the UK and so it will need to be hardwearing to survive. Help gratefully received!

Ok not sure about arm and leg for cost as they are not cheap but equafleece. My dog has now past away at the age of 14 I got his equafleece at the age of 6 months he was still wearing it. They wash brilliantly and dry quickly. Wick water a way from your wet dog after a bath and are also rainproof. Well worth a look. My dog was a cocker spaniel.

Agree with pp that Equafleece coats are good.
I also rate Hurtta and they do ones with legs although they might be too small for your dog.
But I've just bought mine a Non-stop dogwear coat and I really rate it. Not sure they do ones with legs though.

None of them are cheap sadly. Her coats tend to cost more than mine!

Have you looked on vinted? I’ve seen quite a few dog coats on there.

I bought my Lab a Swish Equestrian coat from Amazon. It's a L but he could have managed with a M. Not over expensive, £25, very smart but no legs. Really lovely seller. He doesn't wear it in the countryside. If he gets wet and filthy, I wash him and put him in his Ruff and Tumble drying coat and just dry his legs.

Thanks everyone. Usually it's been fine to manage without coats with our dogs over the years, but this year's seemingly unending wet and exceptionally muddy weather, together with an owner injury, has made things more tricky, especially with her legs and undercarriage. I've had a look and there are plenty of coats for toy, small, medium and large dogs, but very few for giants. They mostly stop at a 65cm back length, but she would need 90cm, similar to a Great Dane or an Irish Wolfhound, and she has larger chest and neck measurements too. I spotted one advertised as 5XL and thought 'great, that should fit' but it was only big enough for a German Shepherd or similar!

I think a photo might help (if not outing)

We have a hurtta one, but he's not as big, collie

fieldsofbutterflies · 17/05/2024 13:27

@mudandrainshaker have you tried a rug for horses?

It won't help with the legs but could help keep the worst off. I know some people buy the Shetland pony size ones for their giant dogs.
